China Oil & Gas Pipeline Network Corporation's Project for Replacing General-Purpose Databases with an Independently Developed Database

Project Overview

1. Project Background

To strengthen the security, reliability, and autonomous control of its business information systems, China Oil & Gas Pipeline Network Corporation (PipeChina) plans to deploy mature, reliable, and stable domestic relational database software in its upcoming business systems, while progressively replacing the underlying databases of its existing systems.

2. Key Concerns

PipeChina’s information systems have been largely dependent on foreign database solutions such as Oracle. Driven by information security and cost efficiency, the Group is evaluating domestic alternatives. The primary concern for the customer is whether domestic databases can deliver the same level of stability, functionality, and performance as their foreign equivalents.

3. Project Requirements

While safeguarding business continuity and operational stability across PipeChina’s core operations, the project calls for the adoption of independently controlled, secure, reliable, highly compatible, and stable domestic relational database software. The solution must support the construction and operation of all IT initiatives within the Group, ensuring efficient business execution. The main scope of the project involves the procurement of general-purpose relational database software, accompanied by comprehensive after-sales services—including the delivery of database solution proposals for various PipeChina IT projects, product installation and testing, database administration, performance optimization, and compatibility support.

Implementation Plan

The project deployed two GBase 8s clusters provided by General Data Technology. Focusing on business continuity and operational stability during PipeChina’s transition period, the project team carried out unified planning, construction, and management to ensure efficient operation across all systems. It delivered comprehensive relational database software products and support services for PipeChina’s unified information platforms, gradually achieving full adoption of domestically developed relational database technologies.

Thanks to the team’s sustained efforts, numerous systems were smoothly migrated to GBase 8s and are now running stably, including PipeChina’s Human Resources Management System, Collaborative Office Platform – Archive System, Engineering Project Management System, Intelligent Operations System, Host Security Protection System, Contract System, Smart Plate Catering Settlement System, IP Resource Management Platform, Network Application Management Platform, Financial Management System, OTS Oil & Gas Dispatcher Training System, Asset System, and more.

Results

1. This project aggregated massive volumes of business data, delivering robust data and service support for PipeChina Group’s IP Resource Management System, Data Standard System, and Public Data Coding Platform, effectively meeting business needs.

2. The PipeChina general-purpose database localization project, grounded in the Group’s current IT landscape and requirements, uniformly adopted domestic relational database software to underpin general business information systems, fulfilling information security, cost control, and localization imperatives.
