GBase Enables Seamless Relocation of ABC's Data Cluster, Earns Customer Recognition Again
As the data volume at ABC continued to grow, the deployed GBase cluster scale increased year by year. To facilitate unified server management and reduce operational costs, the ABC head office decided in 2020 to relocate all GBase cluster servers to the ABC data center. The GBase on-site senior service team provided focused support and worked closely with ABC to complete the relocation of the GBase cluster servers and multiple major cluster changes. All tasks were delivered with high quality and efficiency, ensuring that the relocation process did not disrupt the online services of ABC's existing business. This performance also won customer recognition.
The enterprise-grade big data platform at ABC head office has been under construction since April 2014, and the active-active dual-cluster database main warehouse with over a hundred nodes was completed in 2016. Subsequently, multiple data marts were built for various business themes. GBase 8a MPP Cluster, the analytical database from GBase, has been deployed to host mart clusters, main warehouse business clusters, analytical business clusters, and more. To date, the deployment has exceeded 1,600 nodes with dozens of cluster environments, managing a total data volume of over 30 PB. It has accomplished the integration, aggregation, storage, and management of critical data across ABC head office, provided enterprise-wide data sharing services according to upper-layer application requirements, and delivered massive data processing and analysis capabilities, along with high-performance, high-efficiency, and high-quality data analysis, mining, and cleansing.
Due to the rapid growth of managed business data and extended data lifecycles, storage space and analysis performance became insufficient, requiring capacity expansion, relocation management, and consolidation. To facilitate unified server management and reduce operational control costs, the decision was made to relocate the GBase cluster servers.
Professional Approach, Efficient Team, Full Assurance
Facing this task, the GBase on-site senior service team conducted on-site assessments and implementation rehearsals for all involved GBase clusters to guarantee efficient real-time response during the relocation, no business data loss, no business disruption, zero on-site incidents, and zero customer complaints.
GBase set up a temporary technical support squad with dedicated personnel to ensure immediate resolution and reporting of any technical challenges. A clear and complete service plan and process definition were provided to ensure effective control and quality assurance at every step of the implementation. The team also maintained and filed project reports to document and archive the entire maintenance process.
During the relocation, the GBase service team first performed switchover drills for the active-active dual cluster, organized the related steps, and assessed and resolved potential anomalies.
For existing dual clusters, a dual-cluster switchover relocation mechanism was used. The B cluster was relocated first, and the data synchronization between the A and B clusters was restarted the next day to ensure the B cluster data matched the A cluster. The A cluster servers were then relocated during an appropriate time window.
For environments with only an A cluster and no B cluster, a temporary B cluster was built at the new location. Data from the A cluster was synchronized to the temporary B cluster, and once the data was consistent, the A cluster was relocated.
Throughout the relocation, GBase technical staff worked overtime and fully cooperated with the relevant ABC operations personnel, ensuring post-relocation cluster status checks and anomaly handling. This demonstrated the high professionalism and strong technical skills of the GBase employees.
