To further accelerate the building of the IT application innovation ecosystem and cultivate IT application innovation talent in the financial sector, the Financial IT Application Innovation Ecosystem Lab organized various vendors to hold financial IT application innovation training. On November 16, 2021, GBase was invited to deliver an online training session titled "Introduction to GBase 8a Converged Data Warehouse and Its Application and Practice in Financial IT Application Innovation."

This training was presented by Bai Junkui, Product Manager of GBase 8a, lasted two hours, and provided a detailed introduction to data warehouse evolution, the core technologies of the large-scale distributed database product GBase 8a MPP Cluster, and typical cases in financial IT application innovation. Over 100 participants attended the online training with positive feedback.

Part 1: Data Warehouse Development Trends

Data warehouses have evolved from early minicomputer and shared-storage architectures to federated architectures with extremely high scalability using share-nothing MPP, then to lakehouse logical data warehouse architectures that integrate NoSQL and streaming data technologies, as well as cloud-native data warehouse products. Over decades of continuous development, they are evolving toward a convergence of multiple technologies, supporting all data types, real-time processing, extreme elastic scalability, high performance, high security, and cross-domain deployment.

GBase's self-developed converged data warehouse GBase 8a is a mature analytical MPP data processing system for the big data era. It has passed the TPC-DS benchmark, with a QphDS score of 8,944,478, ranking on the official TPC-DS list with the fewest test nodes among all tested vendors, the highest per-core performance, and the best loading performance.

Part 2: Introduction to GBase 8a Converged Data Warehouse

GBase 8a MPP Cluster features a federated architecture, massively parallel processing, massive data compression, efficient storage structure, intelligent indexing, virtual clustering and mirroring, flexible data distribution, comprehensive resource management, fast online scaling, online node replacement, high concurrency, high availability, high security, ease of maintenance, and efficient loading. It can meet the growing demands for data analysis, data mining, data backup, and ad hoc querying in data-intensive industries. It can serve as the underlying database for data warehouse systems, BI systems, and decision support systems.

Part 3: Typical Cases of GBase 8a in Financial IT Application Innovation

GBase 8a MPP Cluster has been deployed at scale in industries with massive business data, such as finance, telecommunications, and energy, with over 25,000 nodes deployed, managing over 200 PB of data. It currently serves more than 80 users in the financial sector. Its successful applications in big data platforms of major state-owned banks, data warehouses of large insurance companies, and auditing systems of joint-stock banks have fully demonstrated that GBase 8a MPP Cluster effectively meets the big data analytics needs of banks and insurers in financial IT application innovation.

Through the Financial IT Application Innovation Ecosystem Lab's training platform, we hope to introduce the GBase database to more financial industry users, enabling outstanding domestic databases to be applied in more projects, and contributing to the vision of a collaborative, co-built, win-win, and shared domestic ecosystem.
