A First Look at a Chinese Homegrown Database Star — GBase

"Reasons for Attending Certification Training"

Shandong Mobile's business analysis system and big data thematic analysis platform began introducing domestic databases in 2012 to gradually replace the original databases. The big data platform was built and expanded in phases, adopting GBase clusters as the underlying data support. To accelerate the migration of customized applications to GBase, in early June 2021, the provincial company of Shandong Mobile organized big data learning, and instructors from General Data Technology delivered a tailored GBase 8a GDCA training, kicking off the first offline GBase 8a learning journey. Later in late June, I participated in the GBase 8a online training camp; in September, I continued with the GBase 8s certification training camp, striving to truly learn and master the skills of operating and maintaining domestic databases for daily work.

Since 2021, under the guidance of the provincial company, the city branches of Shandong Mobile have planned and implemented the migration from Oracle data marts to the DACP platform (GBase), further promoting the company's data localization. In using GBase, the first impression was "fast." Data processing that originally took hours on Oracle data marts could be completed on GBase in minutes or even dozens of seconds, improving work efficiency by a hundredfold, preventing freezes and exceptions, and turning many time-sensitive development tasks from impossible to possible. Meanwhile, GBase 8s is powerful, efficient, stable, and easy to use, featuring high performance, high availability, and high security, which also left a deep impression on me.

In the wave of de-IOE, as a fully homegrown product, GBase from General Data Technology is like the first ray of morning light breaking the silent night.

The curriculum was rich, well-structured, and compact; the training camp atmosphere was collaborative and active; the video blogs and materials were easy to understand and practical. The GBase 8s course followed the same style as GBase 8a, unlocking new video lessons daily with appropriate lengths, along with convenient directory links in the WeChat group. By making good use of fragmented time, one could learn. The instructor explained thoroughly and clearly from fundamental principles to hands-on practice. Moreover, within the WeChat group, the instructors from General Data Technology and fellow learners were enthusiastic and promptly answered every question. In addition, the blog by Mr. Ji Hui from General Data Technology was closely aligned with real-world practice, and going through it from start to finish is definitely great material for beginners.
