Seamless Replacement, Cost Optimization, and High Availability: How Jilin Mobile Demonstrates the End-to-End Value of GBase Database

Against the backdrop of core challenges such as technology ecosystem and application adaptation in domestic database replacement, Jilin Mobile's business support systems, with their scale and complexity, placed extremely high demands on the replacement solution. GBase database was selected as the primary share in China Mobile's joint innovation project and deeply participated in Jilin Mobile's replacement project. By 2024, it had successfully supported the replacement of over a hundred database systems, achieving significant cost optimization and enhanced business continuity capabilities.

GBase Database’s Support: Delivering an End-to-End Replacement Solution

To address Jilin Mobile's complex requirements, GBase did not simply offer a single product, but delivered a comprehensive end-to-end replacement support solution:

  • Jointly Developed Product: Working together with Jilin Mobile, we developed a self-developed and controllable OLTP database product tailored to the characteristics of its business support systems, to address various business scenarios including core, front-end/back-end, and cloud migration.

  • Complete Migration Toolchain: We provided a full set of migration solutions, including application migration tools, diagnostic and maintenance tools, to tackle the real challenges of data migration and engineering adaptation. 

  • Smooth Operational Transition: The solution was designed with consideration of technical component value, operational compatibility, and other aspects to ensure stable operation after replacement and controllable ongoing maintenance.

Results at Scale: Proving Value Through Deployment

Through the concerted efforts of both parties, the project has achieved measurable and verifiable outcomes: 

  • Scaled Replacements Completed: By 2024, over a hundred database systems had been replaced, achieving large-scale, mature adoption of a self-developed and controllable database in core production environments.  

  • Significant Cost Optimization: The new system runs on low-cost PC servers, reducing total software and hardware procurement costs to 20%–30% of the original solution, effectively saving hardware investment. 

  • Enhanced Business Continuity: With GBase’s multi-site disaster recovery solution spanning two locations and three data centers, the system effectively resisted single points of failure, minimized downtime, and ensured high availability.

From being selected for the joint innovation project to supporting Jilin Mobile in smoothly replacing over a hundred systems while optimizing costs, GBase database, leveraging its full-stack product capabilities and deep customization services, has provided a proven, viable path for the independent and controllable upgrade of core systems in the telecommunications industry.
