Virtual Clusters: One of the Seven Core Capabilities of GBase 8a V9
Virtual clusters supported by GBase 8a V9 are suitable for big data platforms, comprehensive BI systems, data warehouses, and data marts that contain relatively independent business domains or different analysis types. Different application scenarios run in separate logical subclusters, with each logical subcluster centrally managed. They not only solve the high cost of managing, monitoring, and maintaining multiple physical clusters, but also meet the differentiated requirements of various business scenarios, maximize resource utilization, enhance cluster scalability and maintainability, and achieve real-time active-active clustering at the product level. Applicable scenarios include:
(1) Used for system planning and construction of multiple clusters, where each cluster has independent business operations, enabling independent management of each cluster's business;
(2) Provides data management, user management, and cluster version management capabilities;
(3) Enables transparent data migration, data association, and data sharing across logical subclusters.
By leveraging virtual cluster technology, V9 significantly enhances cluster manageability, and a single cluster can scale to thousands of nodes.
Virtual clusters are developed on the basis of large-scale clusters; a single cluster contains multiple VCs. Each VC runs independently within the entire cluster and shares a unified entry point. With proper permissions, virtual clusters can access each other. It supports deploying Coordinator nodes and VC data nodes on the same physical node. It provides unified management, unified entry, business isolation, and transparent access.
Unified Management
By dividing virtual clusters within the cluster, it enhances scalability while providing a unified management view, enabling clusters to scale to thousands of nodes.
Unified Entry
Users can select any Coordinator node within the Coordinator cluster as the cluster entry point. The Coordinator node determines the default VC based on the user.
Note: The coordinator nodes store metadata for all VC databases and tables.
Business Isolation
Virtual clusters perform vertical resource isolation for the cluster, enabling physical resource isolation for different business operations in real-world scenarios.
Transparent Access
Virtual clusters provide a unified access entry (enabling unified access to warehouses and data marts), making access to multiple physical clusters transparent to applications, which perceive them as a single unified cluster.
