Discussing China's Database Development: Status and Trends of the Database Industry
At the China Database Industry Summit of the 25th China International Software Expo, Li Wei, Deputy Director of the Software Research Institute of the National Industrial Information Security Development Research Center, delivered a keynote speech titled "Status and Trends of the Database Industry" at the main forum, elaborating on the current status and trends of database industry development in the new era, and proposing viable development suggestions for the difficulties faced in the industry's upgrade.
Li Wei stated that as an important part of the "Digital China" strategy, China's database industry has developed rapidly in recent years, with its international market share increasing year by year, the industry ecosystem continuously growing, and industry applications deepening. Chinese database vendors are accelerating to catch up with international leaders. In basic research, innovative theories are constantly emerging; in technological breakthroughs, important breakthroughs have been achieved at several key technical points. The industry has basically acquired key technology R&D capabilities and is building competitive strength. The entire database industry is presenting a scene of flourishing and contention: overall, relational databases dominate, supplemented by non-relational databases, with diverse development paths; distributed and cloud-native database products are gaining increasing popularity. At the same time, domestic database procurement has increased significantly, the market scale has grown steadily, and the industry already has the foundation for commercial deployment in core scenarios across various sectors.
Talking about the future development of China's database industry, Li Wei summarized the following three trends:
Databases blooming on multiple fronts, with relational and non-relational advancing together
Relational databases remain mainstream in China's database rankings, while the fields of relational and non-relational databases (databases, real-time databases) are flourishing across the board.
Continuous evolution of technical architecture leads to an era of diverse and hybrid databases
With hardware performance improvements and the continuous development of emerging technologies such as the internet and cloud computing, databases have evolved different technical routes in terms of data models, architectures, and development and deployment models, achieving architectural leaps.
Distinct characteristics of database applications in the new era
Domestic databases are being widely adopted across various sectors, gradually moving from peripheral systems to core systems, while the demands for databases vary.
Li Wei pointed out that China's database industry also faces problems such as insufficient independent R&D capabilities, lack of core scenario testing, scattered industrial strength, and imperfect standards development. Therefore, he called on database vendors to accelerate kernel-level independent innovation, users to open up full application scenarios, and all parties to work together to build China's database standards system, vigorously cultivate the database industry ecosystem, and accelerate the prosperity of China's database industry.
At the end of his speech, Li Wei also reported on the next steps for the National Industrial Information Security Development Research Center. He emphasized that in the future, the center will focus on strengthening top-level research support, enhancing standardization, continuously conducting industry-level database product capability tests, building benchmark testing models for domestic databases, and relying on the database adaptation and verification center to establish a domestic database ecosystem, thereby supporting the high-quality development of China's database industry.
