Building a Smart Hub for Rail Transit: Shenzhen Metro and GBase IT Application Innovation Case Presented at Rail Transit Seminar

Published on 2025-11-05

Recently, the "First Urban Rail Transit Intelligent Passenger Service (Ticketing) Seminar and the 20th Urban Rail Transit AFC System Technology Application Seminar," themed "Intelligent, Green, Integrated Innovation for Ticketing; Deepening Services to Embrace the Future," was successfully held in Shenzhen. GBase, as a leading database provider in the rail transit field, was invited to attend and showcased its efficient and stable integrated database solutions to the industry.

Cui Zhiwei, General Manager of the GBase 8s Product Business Department delivered a keynote speech titled "GBase Empowers Digital and Intelligent Transformation of Rail Transit" at the conference, systematically introducing the practical achievements of GBase databases in driving innovation and development of AFC systems.

He pointed out that as early as 2022, GBase databases supported the opening and operation of the Shenzhen Metro Phase IV project. The project adopted a fully localized technology stack, and its AFC system, AFC Clearing Center (ACC), Multi-line Central Computer System (CLC), and Internet Ticketing Management System all used GBase as the underlying database, supporting ticketing, entry/exit, business management, passenger flow analysis, and revenue analysis for a metro serving tens of millions of passengers.

The GBase 8s database fully meets the system construction needs of Shenzhen Metro in terms of functionality, performance, reliability, and compatibility. At the station level, same-city replication (HAC) ensures data synchronization; at the center level, a combination of shared storage cluster and same-city replication (SSC+HAC) builds a multi-layer high-availability architecture. Moreover, GBase 8s provides a one-stop migration tool (MTK) and a comprehensive monitoring and operations platform (GEM), robustly supporting ticketing, entry/exit, business management, passenger flow analysis, and revenue analysis for a mega-city metro. This broke the monopoly of foreign mainstream databases in China's rail transit business systems, achieving lower costs, better performance, and a full domestic substitution from back-end to front-end. The GBase 8s database has proven its stability and reliability in critical infrastructure such as rail transit.

Currently, GBase 8s databases have been widely deployed in core business scenarios across multiple lines, including AFC systems, clearing centers, multi-line centers, Internet ticketing platforms, integrated monitoring systems, and operation command centers. Its embedded version further enables lightweight and convenient deployment of onboard systems.

To date, GBase databases have been widely used in core business systems of aviation, railways, and over 70 metro lines across China, providing stable data support for tens of millions of daily passenger trips, empowering transportation planning, travel recommendations, traffic queries, and travel decisions. Looking ahead, GBase will continue to focus on independent innovation, continuously improve service levels, promote the development of urban rail AFC systems, and empower with digital intelligence to bring people a safer, smarter, and more convenient travel experience.
