[GBASE Training] The 6th GBase Database Training of 2022 Successfully Concluded
The 6th GBase Database certification training organized by the GBASE Training Center concluded at the end of August. Starting from scratch with the GBase 8a cluster product, this training covered the principles and basic usage of the 8a cluster database. A total of over 580 people registered, and after two weeks of study, together with the 8a certification exam on August 4–6, 288 people took the exam and 263 passed, obtaining the GBase 8a MPP Cluster Database Administrator certificate.
113 candidates scored 90 or above, and among them, 14 earned outstanding trainee recognition and were listed on the outstanding trainee leaderboard, receiving the printed GBase administrator certificate for free!
On August 24, a grand certificate award ceremony was held at the General Data Technology (GBase) headquarters in Tianjin for employees who obtained GBase certifications in 2022 (including those from the July 8a training). GBase CTO Zhao Wei presented the certificates and encouraged employees to seize opportunities amid the current international security landscape, align with China’s IT application innovation initiative, tackle challenges head-on, and deliver excellent database products to serve users in China.

Outstanding Trainees Talk About the Training
Some of this session’s outstanding trainees shared their training summaries, learning experiences, and suggestions for the GBase database. We appreciate everyone’s passion and support for China-developed databases. The following are selected excerpts for your reading.
Zhao Zhifei, Data Analyst at Hangzhou Eastcom Software Co., Ltd.:
After two weeks of systematic training on GBase 8a, I have gained a deeper understanding of its working principles, functional features, and deployment strategies. As a NewSQL database product, its superior query and analysis performance on PB-scale data volumes is well deserved. This training was highly beneficial; GBase 8a, like MySQL, is easy to learn and convenient to operate. Through the training, I became more familiar with the system tables, which greatly improved my efficiency in troubleshooting and performance optimization. I will recommend my team to participate in GBASE 8a training.
Shi Mei, Development Engineer at Bank of Ordos Co., Ltd.:
One reason I attended this training is that a data warehouse project I’m currently involved in has selected the China-developed GBase 8a database and will adopt a cluster architecture. Through this training, I gained a better understanding of the history, current status, and technical features of China-developed databases. I learned about the sharding principles and technical advantages of domestic columnar databases. Also, compared with Oracle and MySQL, GBase 8a makes deployment and management simpler, and with the GBase DataStudio management tool, it is easier to perform GUI-based administration. Moreover, it complies with SQL development standards, providing developers with a friendly interface and consistent development language specifications and standards. I believe this training will be very helpful for my future work.
Cheng Wenjie, Database Engineer at China Great Wall Technology Group Co., Ltd.:
I was recently running stress tests on GBase databases and wanted to see the current level of China-developed databases. That’s why I joined this training. It not only taught me database fundamentals but also provided practical help for my work in testing GBase 8a. Compared with the traditional 8s database, the analytical 8a removes certain limitations and improves performance. Through this training, I learned about the development history of China’s database industry and the different categories of domestic databases. As the IT application innovation sector continues to grow, the development space for Chinese databases is poised for a major breakthrough.
Zhu Jianhua, Project Manager at Nanjing Ruiyue Technology Co., Ltd.:
The training lasted two weeks, and overall I found the knowledge points to be moderately difficult. The instructor’s explanations were detailed and patient. Here are a few of my impressions:
1. While adhering to standard SQL, GBase draws on strengths from other databases and complements them.
2. GBase has significant advantages over other databases, such as its advanced multi-process, multi-thread DSA dynamic scalable architecture, concurrency features, high availability, disaster recovery implementations, two-site/three-center setup, and the highest security level—MLPS Level 4, etc.
3. For those accustomed to other databases, you might find some syntax differences at first and may not feel comfortable, but I believe such design choices are well reasoned. Practice makes perfect.
I would like to thank GBase for providing this certification training opportunity, and I am grateful to instructors Shen and Hao, as well as fellow trainees, for their patient answers. Although this brief GBase training course has ended, it is only a waypoint on my GBase learning journey. I will continue studying GBase and will consolidate and improve my skills in practice.
