【GBASE Event】GBase 8s Database 2022 First Training Successfully Concluded

As spring blooms, the first GBase 8s Database Training Course 2022, organized by GBase Training Center, concluded in mid-May. More than 400 people signed up for this training. After two weeks of study, over 200 participants took the certification exam held from April 28 to May 4, with 192 passing and earning the GBase 8s Database Administrator Engineer certificate.

109 participants scored 90 or above. Among them, 14 who scored over 97 made it onto the Outstanding Trainees list and received a free printed GBase Administrator Engineer certificate!

Printed certificates for this training were dispatched via courier starting May 16. Shipments to certain regions, including Shanghai, Beijing, and Hebei, may be delayed due to the pandemic. Trainees, please keep an eye out for your delivery!

Outstanding Trainees Share Their Experiences

Some of this session's outstanding trainees sent in their training summaries, learning reflections, and suggestions for the GBase database. We appreciate everyone's enthusiasm and support for China's homegrown databases, and we are sharing excerpts of their feedback below.

Mao Rui, Senior Architecture Design Engineer at Baosight Software: The main reason I joined this GBase training is that our company chose GBase 8s as the database software for a metro project in Chongqing. This means we are currently involved in significant database transformation and adaptation work for existing software on GBase 8s. This training gave me a more comprehensive understanding of GBase 8s's product positioning and fundamental usage. The training materials will also be helpful for introductory use of GBase in subsequent project development, facilitating our work on GBase during project implementation.

Qi Yongxiang, Software Development Engineer at ChinaSoft International: I was not very familiar with China's homegrown databases, but after the 8s training, I am deeply impressed by their power: superior performance, comprehensive features, strong compatibility, and robust disaster recovery. The training course was well-structured, progressing step-by-step from basic to advanced concepts. The provision of a virtual machine for hands-on installation and uninstallation practice was especially helpful for deepening my understanding. This 8s database training has significantly expanded my knowledge. I hope our homegrown databases become even stronger, and I look forward to GBase becoming more refined and bringing us even greater convenience.

Zhang Yufei, IT Consultant at CETC: I am a newcomer to IT pre-sales in the financial industry, with about a year of experience. In multiple IT application innovation (ITAI) projects for banking, insurance, and securities, we have repeatedly deployed GBase 8s in high-end transactional application systems as the database to replace Oracle. In these ITAI projects, we often build infrastructure based on the currently mainstream and self-controllable Phytium+Kylin framework, known as the PKS system. Since the PKS architecture uses ARM instruction sets instead of the traditional x86, I was eager to grasp both the micro-level technical details of ITAI products and the macro-level technical roadmap of the industry across these two different instruction sets. After communicating with GBase's training instructors, my learning needs were met. I was able to utilize GBase's x86 cloud virtual machine resources alongside my department's ARM-based server resources to practice and operate on both architectures simultaneously, which was immensely rewarding. The ITAI industry is developing rapidly. Product vendors, system builders, and implementers all need to continuously learn and keep pace with its evolution. GBase is set to become a supporting and core force in this industry. Let us all strive diligently for ITAI!

Feng Yongshi, After-Sales Engineer in Data Storage: I first encountered the GBase 8s database in 2019 during the implementation of an ITAI project. Because GBase 8s was related to our storage equipment, I prepared to learn it, but unfortunately, I couldn't find suitable resources at the time and eventually let it slip away, which was a real regret. When I saw the GBase 8s online training announcement in a WeChat group, I actively participated in the April session. I gained a foundational grasp of GBase 8s installation and uninstallation, operating mode switching, data types, common functions, and data backup and recovery. I plan to periodically review the videos, set up a test environment, and reinforce the instructors' key points through hands-on testing. The 2019 project, where I first saw GBase 8s, has seen the database running smoothly for three years. I am thankful for this systematic training, which fills a previous gap in my knowledge and will hopefully boost my after-sales work going forward.

Yang Kai, Database Administrator at Inner Mongolia KDED: The homegrown database sector is now flourishing, truly the best era for databases in China. Given information security concerns, Sino-US relations, Oracle's recent sanctions on Russia, and its attitude toward China, it's clear that Chinese Oracle users face significant risks with aftersales support. Replacing Oracle is an urgent imperative. Homegrown databases represented by GBase have been field-tested and refined through real-world projects over recent years, proving they are fully capable of replacing Oracle if customers agree. We used GBase in a project for a management center under the Inner Mongolia Development and Reform Commission. Throughout its usage, it was commendable in both operational habits and stability, possessing clear advantages for Oracle replacement. Areas for improvement include database diagnostics, optimization, and monitoring tools.

Yang Qun, Project Manager at Neusoft Group: Invited by a friend, I joined the GBase 8s online training. With China's development and the shifting international landscape, IT localization is becoming increasingly urgent. Operating systems, databases, and middleware are the three critical infrastructures of the IT industry, and these three major components need domestic alternatives as soon as possible. Participating in this training aligns with the trend of the times, truly mastering homegrown database operation and maintenance skills to break free from US technology hegemony. Through these days of study and hands-on practice, I found that with experience using Oracle, operating and using the GBase database is very easy. This means replacement costs and learning curves in future projects will be very low, allowing for quick proficiency. I am very grateful for this training organized by GBase. I was fortunate enough to attend and learn excellent knowledge and skills.
