Call for Volunteers: First GBase 8s Public Beta Test with Rewards
In 2024, after 20 years of development, GBase database from General Data Technology (GBase) has navigated fierce internal and external competition and various challenges, always staying true to its original mission and forging ahead. It has been widely adopted in finance, telecommunications, government, and security sectors, amassing a large user and partner base.
Amid the current wave of IT application innovation in China, database innovation is thriving. To effectively enhance the market competitiveness of GBase database products, General Data Technology plans to launch the “GBase 8s New Version Public Beta Test with Rewards” after the 2024 Chinese New Year. The new version has made significant strides in Oracle compatibility and tool usability. We particularly invite users, partners, and trainees who care about GBase’s development to actively participate as volunteers in this beta test. By validating the product across more application scenarios and proactively providing feedback on issues and improvement suggestions, you help GBase 8s continuously improve and grow, enabling users and the vendor to jointly build a premium database tailored for the Chinese market.
We have prepared prizes worth thousands of yuan for this event—sign up now!
01 Event Schedule
1. Volunteer Recruitment: February 1, 2024 – February 22, 2024
2. Testing Period: February 23, 2024 – March 31, 2024
3. Evaluation Phase: April 1, 2024 – April 14, 2024

02 What Do Volunteers Need to Do?
Based on your actual database experience, you will deploy and install the new GBase 8s version and its tools, integrate applications, run various test cases for functional and performance testing, and produce a test report documenting issues encountered and suggestions for improvement. The report should cover, but is not limited to, the following aspects.
1. Test Environment Description: Including but not limited to server and tool installation environments, database version, etc.
2. Test Method Description: Including but not limited to testing tools, test scenarios, test cases, test data, test effort (hours), etc.
3. Issue Reporting: For any issues found, perform repeated testing to ensure reproducibility. Document each issue in detail, including the problem description, test case, error messages, preliminary analysis, and resolution suggestions. If multiple issues are found, record them separately. Severity levels from low to high: Minor, Secondary, General, Serious, Crash.
4. Reasonable Requirements: If you find commonly used SQL statements not supported by GBase 8s, missing features, usability issues, or feature optimization opportunities, you can propose them as new requirements. Multiple requirements can be submitted. For each requirement, clearly describe the use case, function definition, and provide a reference showing how other databases implement the function.
Note:
1. All test report content must be published in the GBase Community (https://www.gbase.cn/community). Volunteers need to register an account and have the community administrator grant posting rights to the dedicated beta test forum before they can publish. The staff will review submissions in the backend, and the content between volunteers will be invisible to each other.
2. All submitted issues and requirements will be reviewed and confirmed by the staff. Confirmed items will serve as the basis for rewards in this event. Please ensure that all content is your original work.

Note:
1. If an issue or requirement description is lengthy, you can split it into multiple posts. If there are multiple posts, please compile a summary post for evaluation purposes and include links to the individual posts.
2. Each post title must start with your name. Choose the corresponding tag when publishing. For example, for an issue post, title format “Name - Issue: ***”, tag “Issue”; for a requirement post, “Name - Requirement: ***”, tag “Requirement”; for a summary post, use title “Name - 8s Test Report”, tag “Summary.”
2. Evaluation Phase: April 1, 2024 – April 14, 2024
We approach the issues and requirement suggestions raised by volunteers with a spirit of sincere cooperation, open-mindedness, and continuous improvement. The evaluation panel will assess based on the principles of contribution, quality priority, and more work, more reward.
The evaluation of this event consists of two stages: confirmation of issues and requirements, and test report excellence assessment.
1) Confirmation of Issues and Requirements:
The evaluation panel will review the issues and requirement posts weekly in the backend and communicate with volunteers in the WeChat group at any time. Uncontested issues and requirements will be confirmed. If there is a dispute, after communication, volunteers can modify the content for confirmation the following week.
2) Test Report Excellence Assessment:
At the end of the testing period, volunteers submit a summary post (complete report). The evaluation panel will comprehensively score based on the completeness of the test report and contribution metrics, including test environment, test method, confirmed issue severity level, requirement level, etc., and award rewards accordingly.
