Published on 2024-07-31

The GBASE Training Center plans to launch the "2024 GBase University Summer Database Training Program" on August 2 this year. GBASE (General Data Technology Co., Ltd.) is an independent database vendor focused on database product R&D, with large-scale deployments in the finance and telecom industries in China. As one of the first 22 training providers listed in the talent development program by the IT Application Innovation Working Committee, and a designated university internship base in Tianjin, we collaborate with universities every year to deliver database training for students. This program helps university students quickly master GBase 8s, a China-developed transactional database, through a blend of theory and hands-on practice. The training is entirely free. Classes start on August 2. All students and faculty are warmly invited to register!

Product Overview

GBase 8s is a mature and stable shared-storage database cluster independently developed by GBASE. It enables multiple computing nodes to share a single copy of disk data, with all nodes supporting both reads and writes. The product meets national security evaluation standards, supports national cryptographic algorithms, and complies with international database standards and development interfaces such as SQL92/99, ODBC, JDBC, ADO.NET, GCI (OCI/OCCI), and Python. It has independent intellectual property rights. GBase 8s supports active-standby deployment, shared-storage high-availability deployment, and two-site three-center high-availability deployment. With high capacity, high concurrency, and high performance, it provides a cost-effective general-purpose computing platform for ultra-large-scale data management.

GBase 8s excels in OLTP scenarios, including critical core business systems in finance and telecommunications, as well as information systems with high security requirements in public security, government, and national defense sectors. It delivers 24×7 non-stop processing capabilities.

Curriculum Overview

Designed for students interested in China-developed databases and aspiring to pursue careers in database delivery, operations, or pre-sales support, this course introduces China-developed databases and helps you master GBase 8s fundamentals and basic operation and development.

Starting from the very basics, this course covers GBase 8s principles, installation and deployment, management and maintenance, and basic SQL development. Upon completion, students will be able to quickly deploy GBase 8s, a transactional China-developed database, in Linux environments and master essential operational tasks such as installation, management, data import/export, and backup.

Training Schedule

The program consists of two phases: learning and examination. It includes 13 days of study with one mock exam, plus two attempts at the certification exam. The entire course is delivered through an online learning platform. With daily study reminders in the group chat, training materials in HTML format, and support from expert instructors, the well-structured program guides you step by step to easily master the fundamentals of China-developed databases.

Testimonials from Past Participants

Senior, School of Information, Tiangong University: I found it very effective. The instructors explained and demonstrated commands in the videos, helping us intuitively understand what each command does. For the hands-on part, I had some experience with virtual machines, so I could follow along easily. Every exercise came with a practice document showing all commands and results, which I could refer to while practicing. I think this basic tutorial is really suitable for us students.

Teacher, School of Information, a vocational college: Coming from a school, I had only worked with foreign databases and always felt something was missing. Through this training, I discovered that China-developed databases are just as good and better suited to the usage habits of Chinese users. They are worth promoting. We could set up a course on China-developed databases to nurture a group of students and gradually advance their adoption, helping China-developed databases expand more widely.

System Project Manager, Shandong Mobile: The GBase 8s training was a true feast of knowledge. The curriculum was well-organized and compact, the learning atmosphere in the training camp was friendly and active, and the video and blog materials were practical and easy to understand. Each day, a new video lesson was unlocked—just the right length—and there were convenient directory links in the WeChat group. I could learn by making use of my free time. From basic principles to hands-on operations, the instructor explained everything clearly and thoroughly. Moreover, the GBASE teachers and other learners in the WeChat group were enthusiastic and responsive, promptly answering every question. The supporting hands-on exercise documents closely reflected real-world scenarios; working through them from start to finish was an excellent way to get started.

IT Product Manager, Jiangsu Mobile: The instructor's teaching was like a sumptuous feast, elegantly presented in the training session. It truly was a case of “a single conversation with a wise man is better than ten years of study.” The instructor shared his experience unreservedly, explaining complex topics in simple terms—it was nothing short of brilliant.

Development Engineer, Software Center, a bank: The course lasted 13 days. As a complete beginner, I learned the principles of the GBase 8s database, installation and deployment, management and maintenance, and basic SQL development through the online lessons. This enabled us to master fundamental GBase 8s operational tasks such as installation, management, data import/export, and backup. The instructor also demonstrated everything in practice, with very detailed explanations. I found the course extremely practical and valuable. At the same time, the teacher provided us with the course materials in HTML format, so we could follow along and review anytime after class. The whole experience was hugely beneficial, and I hope to continue learning more about GBase products.

Data Architect, Jiangsu Servyou: This training was organized as an online camp, which was very convenient. Not only was the training free, but it also provided a cloud environment for hands-on practice. Most impressively, the instructors explained every topic in meticulous detail—they really got to the heart of everything. The teachers were also very patient and prompt in answering our questions in the group chat. Many thanks to the instructors and to all the fellow learners who shared their questions and insights along the way.

Architect, a Hubei-based archival technology company: The free GBase training opportunity gave me a whole new perspective on GBASE products. The training covered a lot of content, and I spent a few days intensively studying it. The material in the videos was very useful, and I used most of it in my testing. The database's SQL compatibility is excellent—apart from a few specific syntaxes, it is largely compatible with popular database products. I also tried migrating a previous project to GBase, and it turned out to be quite straightforward. I particularly want to mention that the training was free of charge. In contrast, similar training from other vendors can cost thousands of yuan. I think this is very commendable; it shows that GBASE is focused on building its ecosystem rather than just chasing money. I believe that products made by such a principled company will be of high quality.
