Chongqing Metro AFC Project
Key Benefits
High Performance: China’s first homegrown database system built to world‑class standards. Independently developed and distributed using the latest authorized source code from a leading global enterprise database.
High Stability: Ensures 24/7 business continuity.
High Availability: The GBase 8s shared‑storage cluster‑based high availability solution eliminates synchronization errors, delivering data accuracy down to the last cent.
Customization: GBase 8s offers localized customization services unmatched by any commercial or open‑source database—rapidly delivering optimal database‑layer solutions tailored to user requirements.
Solutions
Carry out database migration, using GBase 8s ESQL/C to replace the original Oracle Pro*C code, using GBase 8s stored procedures to replace existing PL/SQL code. Conduct regression and stress tests to verify that functionality and stability match the original Oracle database level.
Build a shared-storage database cluster with GBase 8s, achieving high availability through OS-level HA software. It efficiently processes tables with hundreds of millions of rows, and in case of failure, the system automatically switches nodes to ensure stability, high availability, and business continuity.
Customer feedback: Since going live in 2017, the system has been running stably without any production issues affecting business operations. Overall, performance has been smooth.
Requirements Analysis
Driven by the need to adopt domestic technology, the metro AFC system selected a domestic database to replace the original Oracle database, with migration of the original Oracle Pro*C and PL/SQL programs to GBase 8s ESQL/C and stored procedures;
Achieve the same level of functionality and stability as the original Oracle database;
Meet business continuity requirements, with automatic failover in seconds upon system failure, requiring no manual intervention;
Meet business performance and capacity requirements, supporting real-time transaction processing and storage for ticketing.
Project Background
The metro AFC (Automatic Fare Collection) system is an automated solution that leverages computer, communication, networking, and automatic control technologies to handle the entire process of rail transit ticketing, fare inspection, charging, collection, statistics, clearing, and management.
The metro AFC system automates ticket sales and fare inspection, offering flexible payment methods and management capabilities. It also supports passenger flow analysis and revenue analysis, providing data-driven insights for operational decision-making. China's urban rail transit is experiencing rapid growth, with 31 cities operating metro systems covering over 4,500 kilometers and an annual growth rate of approximately 20%. Leveraging advanced automated systems to reduce labor intensity for metro staff and obtain first-hand operational data to ensure investor returns has become a key focus for both system operators and investors.
