GBASE Powers Hebei Airport Group's Big Data Platform

Project Overview

Hebei Airport Group's data center big data platform was built relatively early on a Hadoop architecture, leaving room for improvement in transactional data storage and real-time data analytics. In accordance with the group's Overall Technical Architecture for Big Data Processing, the customer introduced distributed transactional and distributed analytical databases to strengthen overall OLTP and OLAP capabilities.

Implementation

The project adopted GBASE's GBase 8c + GBase 8a integrated solution, fully replacing the existing TiDB, HBase, and Hive components. Through a "one platform, dual engine" architecture, it delivers enterprise-grade HTAP processing power to support intelligent production, BI reporting, and operational analytics. The existing Hive deployment now retains only historical data.

The real-time operational monitoring system previously used TiDB to store interface data. As data volumes and business complexity grew, TiDB could no longer meet requirements. The customer adopted the GBase 8c distributed database, achieving substantial improvements across functionality, performance, stability, and ease of use.

GBase 8a distributed database replaced HBase and the Hive + Spark stack, supporting a wide range of complex business workloads, improving overall analytical performance, and making fuller use of hardware resources while reducing development costs.

In October 2024, the airport iPass integration platform built on domestic databases went live, progressively onboarding various interface services.

Results

  • Two GBase database clusters (GBase 8c + GBase 8a, three servers each) now support over 10 information systems spanning transactional data processing and real-time analytics.

  • Projected to host over 30 TB of business data, with overall performance improving by more than 5× following the architectural adjustment.

  • Strong compatibility enabled fast, smooth architectural upgrades and data migration.

  • Initial autonomous, controllable infrastructure achieved — completing domestic substitution for all software except servers, while meeting both IT application innovation requirements and the need to reuse existing assets.
