GBASE Powers the Guangxi Provincial Health Information Platform
Project Overview
The Guangxi Provincial Health Information Platform is a platform supporting the regional health system, centrally built by the Health Statistics and Information Center of the Guangxi Health Commission. Based on actual business requirements and industry data standards, the platform integrates three foundational databases — population registry, electronic health records (EHR), and electronic medical records (EMR) — supporting upper-layer applications.
Designed to process province-wide health and medical data spanning 2020 to 2029, the platform handles petabyte-scale (PB) data volumes and places high demands on database performance. The database adopts a distributed architecture, requiring strong consistency and resilience — including comprehensive distributed transaction support and high availability. The legacy business platforms and database systems ran on a mix of MySQL and Oracle, so the selected product needed to support the syntax conventions of both to improve development efficiency.
Implementation
The project serves the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Health Commission center and healthcare institutions at all levels, deploying a hybrid centralized + distributed architecture. SQL syntax and interfaces are unified, as are monitoring tools — simplifying adaptation for upper-layer business systems and enabling unified maintenance and management.
GBASE's GBase 8c distributed database provides elastic scaling: users can define scaling rules based on business requirements and policies. When demand grows, the system automatically adds database nodes to maintain compute and storage capacity; when demand declines, it automatically removes nodes to reduce costs.
The platform was completed and opened for use in November 2024. Per project construction requirements, 2025 expansion proceeded according to the customer's production roadmap — progressively extending to healthcare institution front-end processors, data lake construction, data center construction, grade review business databases, centralized business databases, and public platform business systems.
To date, the data center has brought online 6 distributed clusters with 153 nodes, 39 centralized instances with 117 nodes, and 4 standalone servers. Of the 580+ planned healthcare institution database front-end processors, 360 have been deployed in centralized configuration.
Results
Hybrid centralized + distributed deployment fully leverages GBase's multi-model, multi-form capabilities to meet diverse business scenario requirements across the customer's operations.
Large-scale cluster deployment supports massive data storage. Actual deployment exceeds 500 servers managing petabyte-scale data. The platform serves 60 million public users and over 34,000 institutional users, supporting more than 60 business systems.
High compatibility with MySQL and Oracle syntax minimizes migration and adaptation effort.
Full-stack domestic software and hardware adaptation meets the healthcare industry's IT application innovation requirements.
