GBASE Powers Sichuan Provincial Archives Digital Archive System

Project Overview

Archive digitization is a key component of Sichuan Province's 14th Five-Year Plan for digital government construction. The initiative requires ledger-based management of archival resources province-wide and the establishment of comprehensive archive catalog and full-text databases. Guided by China's national security and reliability strategy and domestic technology substitution policies, the Sichuan Provincial Archives Bureau launched a domestic upgrade of the provincial archive system in 2024.

The digital archive management system handles enormous data volumes and daily access loads, requiring the database system to deliver powerful data processing and storage capabilities — supporting massive data storage and rapid retrieval. The archive database system must support multiple CPU architectures to meet diverse business scenario requirements, and integrate seamlessly with existing archive management systems to ensure data consistency and integrity. It must also provide multi-tier high availability and disaster recovery across shared storage, servers, and data centers, with sub-second failover and zero data loss to ensure uninterrupted 7×24 service.

Implementation

For the Sichuan Provincial Archives Bureau's digital archive system, the project adopted GBase 8s as the core database technology. GBase 8s supports multiple systems, including electronic archive filing, cross-departmental data exchange, public service platforms, archive statistics and analytics, and intelligent assistance. The archive holds over 1.45 million entries, with average business response times under 5 seconds.

GBase 8s offers a mature and comprehensive migration methodology, using graphical tools to help customers complete migrations rapidly. The GEM management platform provides a web-based centralized interface for monitoring, managing, and maintaining GBase 8s databases.

In December 2024, the provincial archives bureau's digital archive system, built on domestic databases, officially went live.

Results

  • The project achieved a transformation from traditional management to intelligent governance, from archive digitization to archive intelligence, and from reliance on foreign products to autonomous, controllable infrastructure. The system has run stably for over six months since go-live, and has since been successfully deployed at multiple municipal and county archives. Archive inquiry satisfaction exceeds 95%, and the SSC + HAC cluster architecture meets the customer's 99.9% high availability requirement.

  • Aligned with China's national security and reliability strategy, the solution adapts seamlessly with domestic upstream and downstream ecosystem products, establishing a benchmark for digital archive construction in the government sector and providing valuable experience for the province-wide archives system's domestic technology substitution and digital transformation. It has since been successfully deployed at multiple municipal and county archives.
