Beijing Unicom Streaming Media Log Query Platform Project — Transforming Unstructured Data for Unified Log Management

Project Background

After completing the IPv6 streaming media system upgrade, the Broadband Business Center of China Unicom Beijing needs to implement user access statistics to enable in-depth analysis of user behavior, rapid fault location, and swift response to customer complaints, thereby improving customer satisfaction. This will also provide high-value data support for business analysis, marketing, and operations. The Center's various systems generate massive amounts of unstructured and semi-structured log data daily, including fault information and user access details. These log files must be uniformly transformed and stored to unlock their information value.

Requirements Analysis

A unified log management platform must be built around all streaming media systems in the broadband service center, enabling structured transformation and storage of complex log files to effectively address challenges such as massive data volume, complex structure, and high response requirements. The system should provide petabyte-scale log compression storage and efficient statistical analysis capabilities, with processing capacity at the hundred‑terabyte level and sub‑second response for complex analytical queries, ensuring effective monitoring of business system operations.

Solutions

This solution leverages GBase 8a MPP Cluster to build an IPv6 streaming media log management platform. A log file loading tool analyzes, cleans, and transforms log files from various systems, loading them as structured data into GBase 8a MPP Cluster for storage. The core of the platform is a new-generation columnar GBase 8a MPP Cluster database built on an MPP + shared-nothing architecture, ensuring complete, consistent, and persistent log storage. Through GBase 8a MPP Cluster's standardized interfaces, it connects with upper-layer BI applications, supporting ad hoc queries, multidimensional analysis, interactive reports, and other rich analytical capabilities.
