Liaoning Unicom BSS Management System Transformation Project
Project Background
The increase in business interfaces for Liaoning Unicom’s BSS system led to a continuous surge in log data. With limited disk space, this created significant pressure on costs and data retention. When issues occurred, administrators had to search through massive log files to pinpoint root causes, resulting in sluggish investigations and heavy manual workloads.
To address these challenges, we deployed the GBase 8a database as the log storage system, leveraging its core technologies to reduce storage consumption and achieve fast query performance.
Requirements Analysis
The BSS system logs of Liaoning Unicom are divided into two major categories: UIP system and IBSS system, covering more than 20 log types. These include interface logs from customer service systems, One-Card Charge systems, banking systems, 4G services, electronic channel support systems, value-added service authentication centers, and full-service systems. Processes such as customer complaint handling, fault analysis, and troubleshooting all rely on extracting information from log files for analysis. Log data is stored in file format, and log management is primarily performed manually through text commands. Currently, due to the increase in business interfaces, the BSS system is experiencing rapid growth in log data, with over 100 GB of new logs generated daily. Management and storage have become increasingly difficult, and the BSS log system urgently needs to be revamped.
Solutions
This solution uses the GBase 8a next-generation database to build a BSS log management system. As shown in the architecture diagram, logs from various carrier business systems are cleaned, parsed, and transformed by the GBase 8a log conversion tool, then stored in the GBase 8a database. Leveraging GBase 8a's high performance, high compression, and high concurrency, massive log data can be efficiently compressed and stored. Through the unified database interface ODBC or JDBC, users can access GBase 8a using database terminal tools (command line, graphical management tools), third-party applications, or custom applications to query and manage log data.
