GBASE Empowers Shandong Mobile's Operations Platform Construction

Project Background

The operations platform has long relied on Oracle database support. Due to stable business and limited data volumes, it had not encountered issues for a long time. However, since the launch of new businesses in 2023, the Oracle database has experienced storage pressure and performance bottlenecks, urgently requiring an architecture upgrade. Additionally, considering information and data security, a migration to a domestically-developed database is needed.

Implementation Plan

Based on business characteristics and Shandong Mobile’s experience in building its big data platform, GBase 8a MPP has been selected to support this database upgrade and replacement. In the initial phase, a 3-node cluster will be deployed for department migration and business verification, taking cost and other factors into account. Once the system becomes stable, further expansion will be carried out.

Value Delivered

1) Architecture upgrade. The MPP database supports petabyte-scale massive workloads, scales online without disrupting operations, and delivers linear performance gains.

2) Data security. The multi-replica mechanism ensures data security, while the number of replicas can be flexibly chosen based on data security requirements and storage pressure.

3) Operational refinement. By deploying an OLAP database tailored to business characteristics, it opens a high-speed growth path for future business.

4) Low cost. The shift from Oracle proprietary servers and NetBackup backup appliances to an x86 architecture with replica redundancy has dramatically reduced hardware investment costs.
