Project Overview

As information technology advances, data has become a core enterprise asset. Integrating data resources and unlocking data value have become critical trends and urgent priorities in business operations. The data warehouse platform serves as a vital data analysis system, playing a central role in data collection, integration, analysis, and application. Against this backdrop, to accelerate digital transformation, enhance the self-control of its IT systems, and ensure the security of its technology supply chain, Beijing Rural Commercial Bank (BRCB) initiated an IT Application Innovation revamp of its data warehouse platform.

The bank's Data Warehouse Platform 2.0 has been in stable operation since its launch in 2018, running for six years. However, rapid business growth has led to a significant increase in data volume and a rising number of downstream data interfaces, reports, and regulatory filings. These factors have placed growing pressure on the capacity and performance of the Oracle Exadata appliance-based data warehouse system, directly impacting its data service capabilities and hindering further development.

Currently, approximately 95TB of storage has been consumed on the Oracle Exadata appliance, nearing its 100TB backup limit. As data continues to grow, backup operations face significant risk. In addition, batch processing runtimes have gradually increased with business volume, making it difficult to meet the timeliness requirements of downstream systems and reports.

Solutions

The new platform is built on an MPP (Massively Parallel Processing) framework and uses the GBase 8a analytical database (General Data Technology). Data is distributed across multiple nodes for parallel computation. Inside each node, columnar storage technology enables intelligent indexing, parallel columnar processing, and efficient compression, improving batch processing efficiency. Its shared-nothing architecture supports online scaling and transparent data distribution. Management node instances are deployed in an active-active redundant configuration, and compute node instances are also redundant, delivering high availability. The platform can dynamically scale data and compute resources to meet future business demands.

We procured licenses for the data warehouse's domestically developed innovative database product and deployed it in our production, testing, and development environments: 15 compute nodes in production, 3 in testing, and 3 in development.

Provides a comprehensive high availability mechanism, ensuring data synchronization across data centers, and offers technical support for high-availability architecture, environment deployment, resource analysis, system design, and more.

2. Resource Reuse

Supports multi-tenancy with complete resource isolation between tenants.

3. Graphical and Automated Management

Features graphical database monitoring and management tools along with automated O&M tools, covering database resource allocation, capacity management, security control, performance monitoring, fault alerting, data backup, primary-standby switchover, and disaster recovery switchover.

4. Online Resource Management

Enables online scaling (scale-up and scale-down) of database resources.

5. Data Protection

Offers multiple backup methods, including at least physical and logical backups, with online verification of backup data accuracy and availability.
