2021 Milestones: Building on a Brilliant Year, Forging Ahead with Innovation
As spring returns and a new year begins, we reflect on 2021 as a year of steady progress for GBase. Favorable policies drove the domestic database industry forward, while supply-side technological innovation met diverse demand-side needs. GBase focused on the present while looking to the future, strengthening internal capabilities and external collaborations, and achieving remarkable results.
Looking back on 2021, we summarize the year with eight keywords that capture GBase database's journey.
1. Quality
GBase is built on the foundation of ISO management systems. It was the first foundational software vendor in China to adopt IPD principles for R&D innovation process management, enhancing product quality and customer satisfaction.
1. IPD implementation progressed, with management procedures integrated into the ISO 9001 system for unified management; three IPD pilot projects are underway.
2. In 2021, we completed four external audits of ISO-related systems and obtained five certificates:
ISO 9001 (Quality Management System) certification; ISO 14001 (Environmental Management System) certification; ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety Management System) certification; ISO 20000 (IT Service Management System) certification; ISO 27001 (Information Security Management System) certification.
2. Innovation
Innovation is GBase's core tenet. Since launching China's first column-store database in 2010 and the first MPP distributed analytical cluster database in 2011, after several product iterations and rigorous market validation, we have developed the distributed transactional database GBase 8c. In 2021, we completed cloud adaptation for all products with mainstream cloud providers and launched GBase GCDW, a cloud logical data warehouse. Moving forward, GBase will continue to uphold innovation, striving to be the most trusted database provider for our users.
1. GBase 8a passed the TPC-DS benchmark, achieving the best results for the fewest nodes, optimal loading performance, and highest average per-core computing power; GBase 8a also passed the CAICT database performance and basic capability evaluation with a record-breaking cluster of 4,096 nodes, scoring full marks.
2. GBase 8c passed the 13th batch of CAICT database product capability evaluations.
3. Stepping into the cloud era, we signed strategic cooperation agreements with JD Cloud and Kingsoft Cloud; our core products were listed on China Telecom's e-Surfing Cloud Marketplace; we also partnered with UnionPay Cloud to advance IT application innovation through technology and scenario adaptation.
4. Awards received: "2020 Best Domestic Big Data Product"; IT168 "Technology Excellence Award" for the second consecutive year; "2021 ICT China Innovation Award – Best Solution"; recognized as "2021 Largest Data Warehouse in Financial Industry Informatization".
3. Breakthroughs
In 2021, while consolidating our presence in telecommunications, government, energy, transportation, national defense, and enterprise sectors, GBase achieved breakthroughs in both quality and scale in the financial industry, expanding to over 30 new financial customers and serving a total of more than 130 financial institutions historically.
1. GBase was positioned as a leader and innovator in Frost & Sullivan and LeadLeo's "2020 China Financial-Grade Distributed Database Market Report".
2. GBase 8s was deployed in the core banking system of a regional commercial bank; GBase 8a supported the nationwide indigenous deployment of a data platform at a regional joint-stock bank in South China.
3. GBase won bids for database procurement projects from financial institutions including China Guangfa Bank, Bohai Bank, and Tianjin Rural Commercial Bank.
4. We supported the relocation of a massive 2,000+ node, 25 PB database cluster for Agricultural Bank of China headquarters, ensuring 2,000+ days of zero-failure operation of the bank's big data platform.
5. We participated in over ten industry events, including the 2021 Digital Finance Innovation Forum, China P&C Insurance Technology Application Summit, China International Fintech & IT Application Innovation (Yangtze River Delta) Exhibition, and the 3rd Insurance Digitalization Development Conference.
4. Strengthened Capabilities
With R&D centers in Tianjin, Xi'an, and Nanjing as our foundation and the Beijing marketing center as our hub, we have built a nationwide presence across four major sales regions – East, West, South, and North China – to provide customers with 24/7 technical services and localized support.
As of December 2021, the company employed nearly 600 people, with R&D staff accounting for over 60% of the workforce. Our technical backbone brings a decade of database experience, and core R&D team members have more than five years of database development expertise. R&D investment exceeded half of total company investment. We hold 154 invention patents, 91 software copyrights, more than 10 national and provincial product technology awards, and 6 registered trademarks.
5. Openness
By tracking industry trends, connecting with upstream and downstream partners, bringing together leading enterprises, and accelerating adaptation certifications, we organized product certification training for partners and industry customers. This builds the GBase ecosystem, reduces project procurement costs for customers, and provides one-stop services with proven solutions.
1. In 2021, we participated in over 10 ecosystem partner events with Landray, Kunpeng, Inspur, and others; established strategic partnerships with H3C and other companies.
2. In 2021, we launched over 10 joint solutions for various industries with partners such as Yusys Technologies, Siray, Oriental Guoxin, and Founder International.
3. In 2021, we completed over 500 adaptation certifications for upstream and downstream domestic software and hardware products.
4. We organized over 30 training sessions for partners and customers, teaching more than 6,500 attendees and issuing over 2,000 certificates.
6. Industry-Academia-Research
Guided by market demands, we collaborate with universities and research institutes to build innovation consortia, driving collaborative innovation, enhancing independent innovation capabilities, and realizing the transformation and market application of research outcomes.
1. Established the Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen) – GBase Cloud Database Research Center with HIT Shenzhen, where extensive research achievements in data deduplication and compression have been industrialized.
2. Signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the School of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science at Hebei University of Technology, and was awarded the "University-Enterprise Collaborative Internship and Training Base" plaque.
3. Participated in NDBC 2021 (38th CCF China National Database Conference); signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the CCF Database Committee to advance deep integration of industry, academia, and research.
4. GBase was approved to establish a postdoctoral research workstation; participated in the "2021 National IT Application Innovation and AI Development Postdoctoral Academic Forum" and the 2021 National Postdoctoral Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition.
5. Organized over 60 on-site and online campus recruitment events and more than 10 virtual info sessions.
7. IT Application Innovation
GBase is one of the first members of the IT Application Innovation Working Committee and an important participant in its database and in-memory computing groups. We actively engaged in IT application innovation activities and conferences, contributed to database standards and technology specifications, and co-authored industry white papers, achieving significant progress in 2021.
1. Joined the Beijing Fintech Industry Alliance Innovation Application Committee, the Financial IT Application Innovation Ecosystem Lab, the Key Software Cryptographic Application Research Center, the Database Application Innovation Lab, the Sichuan IT Application Innovation Alliance, and other organizations.
2. Contributed to all three financial industry standards led by the People's Bank of China: "Distributed Database Technology Financial Application Specification – Technical Architecture" (JR/T 0203-2020), "Distributed Database Technology Financial Application Specification – Security Requirements" (JR/T 0204-2020), and "Distributed Database Technology Financial Application Specification – Disaster Recovery Requirements" (JR/T 0205-2020).
3. Began initial work on setting talent standards within the IT application innovation community.
4. Participated in multiple IT application innovation events, including the 2021 Information Technology Application Innovation Exhibitions (Xi'an and Changsha), the "2021 China IT Application Innovation Industry Summit", the "Hebei Province IT Application Innovation Development Seminar", and the "China International Finance Exhibition – IT Application Innovation Special (Yangtze River Delta)".
5. Listed among the "Top 40 IT Application Innovation Enterprises" by Economic Information Daily, a central media outlet, and recognized as a "2021 IT Application Innovation Industry Doer".
8. Brand Leadership
GBase is the only independent database vendor in China focusing solely on database software R&D with large-scale deployments in the finance and telecom sectors. We have been consistently listed in Gartner's Magic Quadrant for Data Management Solutions, ranked 7th globally in critical capabilities for data warehouse; recognized as a domestic database leader by CCID Consulting for consecutive years; ranked among the top seven in IDC's China relational database market tracking report; and won the 2021 Tianjin Science and Technology Progress Award (First Prize).

7. Participated in professional conferences including the 12th China Database Technology Conference, Data Technology Carnival, and NDBC (CCF China National Database Conference), focusing on cutting-edge technology and exploring innovation and development.
