If technology has borders? We build our own line of defense!

After the Russia-Ukraine war broke out, many Western countries imposed sanctions on Russia in military, political, and economic areas, and multiple multinational companies joined the sanctions. Following tech companies such as Meta, Apple, Google, Intel, and AMD suspending their operations in Russia, we learned from Cloud Headlines that Oracle tweeted a few days ago: “For the benefit of 150,000 Oracle employees worldwide, and to support the democratically elected government of Ukraine and the Ukrainian people, Oracle has suspended all operations in the Russian Federation.”

The news sparked heated discussions among netizens. Some questioned, “Does technology now have borders?” Others pondered, “If such a day came upon us, could we bear it?” Many called for “China to stay alert and accelerate indigenous innovation.”

The move by numerous tech giants to suspend services in Russia is undoubtedly a heavy blow to the trend of technology globalization, and it also serves as a wake-up call: when “technology without borders” may become history, where do we go from here?

At this critical moment, speeding up the mastery of core technologies and achieving self-reliance in basic software and hardware has become extremely urgent and vitally important! In the digital era, data serves as the foundation and lifeline of government management and enterprise development, and has become a key issue concerning national welfare and people's livelihoods. Databases play the crucial role of storing and managing data and are the most core product among basic software. As the jewel in the crown of IT infrastructure, databases have become the strategic high ground in national competition. Therefore, achieving self-reliance in database technology is a matter of urgency.

Since its establishment in 2004, GBase (General Data Technology Co., Ltd.) has been dedicated to the R&D and promotion of domestic database software. As early as 2008, it began developing China’s first column-store analytical database for big data analytics, and then in 2011 launched the country’s first MPP columnar analytical database. The underlying core code of its GBase series database products is independently developed, ensuring self-reliance and resolving the bottleneck of relying on foreign products in high-end industries.

After more than a decade of refinement, the GBase series databases have become synonymous with security, stability, and reliability. They have repeatedly replaced foreign vendors such as Oracle, DB2, and Teradata, and have been deployed at scale in business and core systems in critical sectors like finance, telecommunications, and energy. Together with domestic peers, GBase is promoting the evolution of China’s databases from “usable” to “reliable and user-friendly.”

Amid shifts in the international landscape, General Data Technology is willing to join hands with thousands of software and hardware manufacturers and industry peers to shoulder the responsibility of IT application innovation and the task of achieving self-reliance in core technologies and basic software and hardware.
