Unleash Digital Productivity: GBase 8c at HUAWEI CONNECT 2022
The 7th HUAWEI CONNECT concluded successfully in Shenzhen on November 9, 2022. As a global ICT event, HUAWEI CONNECT provides an open, collaborative platform for thought leaders, industry elites, technical experts, R&D teams, ecosystem partners, and application service providers. Covering a wide range of industries, the conference focuses on cutting-edge digital innovations and full-stack, full-scenario services to foster an open and win-win ecosystem.
As a partner and active contributor to the Huawei openGauss ecosystem, GBase was invited to the event. Zhang Yi, General Manager of the GBase 8c product, delivered two compelling speeches at the thematic session "From OLTP to HTAP: openGauss Empowers Core Enterprise Scenario Applications" and the "Huawei Developer Heroes Gathering" session.
Thematic Speech
Heroes Gathering Sharing
At the Huawei Developer Contest award ceremony, witnessed by developer elites and presented by Mr. Hu Zhengce, General Manager of Huawei openGauss Database Product, GBase 8c won the Gold Award of the Kunpeng Application Innovation Contest 2022.
GBase 8c: A Multi-Modal, Multi-Form Distributed Database Based on openGauss
Since its inception in 2020, the openGauss community has deeply integrated Huawei's database expertise, attracting numerous developers to jointly build China's largest open source root community and an enterprise-grade open source database incorporating diverse technologies. Leveraging real-world cases and team experience, GBase actively engages in the community by identifying and fixing bugs, contributing and exchanging ideas. The technical collaborations with the openGauss development team have continuously enhanced GBase 8c's technology and user experience.
In his thematic speech, Zhang Yi, General Manager of GBase 8c, shared the complete development journey of this distributed database. Drawing on GBase's years of experience in the distributed domain and built on the stable openGauss 3.0 open source kernel, GBase 8c has been developed and launched as a multi-modal, multi-form distributed database.
GBase 8c Technical Architecture
Core Architecture
Multi-modal refers to multiple storage models. GBase 8c supports row-based, column-based, and in-memory storage engines to meet business needs in different scenarios:
- Row-based storage engine: Designed primarily for OLTP scenarios, such as order processing, shipping, and banking transaction systems.
- Column-based storage engine: Designed primarily for OLAP scenarios, such as data statistics and report analysis systems.
- In-memory engine: Designed for extreme performance scenarios, such as bank risk control.
Multi-form refers to multiple deployment modes. GBase 8c inherits openGauss's standalone and primary-standby deployment modes and additionally integrates a distributed form. Multiple product forms can be configured on demand to fully address deployment needs across all scenarios, with flexible and controllable resource investment that lowers total cost of ownership.
Technical Features
GBase 8c multi-modal, multi-form distributed database delivers high performance, high availability, elastic scalability, and robust security. It can be deployed on physical servers, virtual machines, containers, public cloud, private cloud, and other environments, providing stable and reliable data management services.
- Multi-modal, Multi-form: Supports row, column, and in-memory storage models and standalone, primary-standby, and distributed deployment forms. Multiple product forms are configurable on demand for flexible and controllable resource investment, reducing total cost of ownership.
- Ultra-High Performance: Multi-version concurrency control (MVCC); distributed elastic scale-out ratio greater than 0.9; NUMA optimization for high performance.
- Extreme Availability: No single point of failure, with up to 99.999% availability. Effectively avoids system downtime risks caused by single-point failures.
- Ultimate Elasticity: Supports online scaling; linear improvement of compute and storage capacity.
- Robust Security: Supports China's national cryptographic algorithms and complies with national information security standards. Features include access control, encrypted authentication, database auditing, and dynamic data masking.
Heroes gather from all directions. GBase will live up to the trust placed in it, continuing to refine and enhance product innovation, completeness, and user experience. Together with ecosystem partners, we will deliver even more comprehensive database solutions.
