On December 10, 2015, the CASIC 2015 Secure and Reliable Information Technology Development Forum was held in Beijing. More than 300 leaders and experts from national ministries, the military, industry enterprises, ecosystem alliances, and CASIC‑affiliated institutes gathered under the theme “Independent Innovation, Forging the Future” to discuss the development path of China’s secure and reliable IT industry. At the forum, Yuan Xiaoguang, Director of Institute 706 of the Second Academy of CASIC, pointed out: “In fact, China has many hardware and software products and technologies in the information security industry, but most are focused on individual points, lacking system integration and application. It’s like having meat and vegetables but no chef to cook them.” He stated that CASIC has brought together relevant units from inside and outside the group, forming a complete industry chain covering CPU chips, operating systems, middleware, application software, and supporting equipment, and is sprinting towards integrated applications in the information security field through an industry alliance model.
In his keynote speech, GBase Chairman Cui Weili elaborated on the development roadmap and current value of Chinese databases: providing support to the nation, offering choices to users, and driving the industry forward. Against the backdrop of big data and cloud computing driving a “tripartite division” transformation in the database industry, the development of Chinese databases must align with the overall industry trends. Through independent innovation, GBase developed the column‑based analytical database GBase 8a, which has entered 16 industries including finance, telecommunications, government, and specialized sectors, demonstrating excellent performance in the structured big data analytics market. With over 1,200 nodes now in production, managing more than 10 PB of data, and having been exported to multiple countries and regions, GBase 8a can be said to be technically synchronized and market‑comparable with international mainstream products. Chairman Cui Weili revealed that the technical evolution of GBase 8a leads to the GBaseUP big data unified processing platform: a high‑end product for processing mixed big data.
In the traditional transaction processing domain, through innovation by introduction, GBase launched the high‑end transaction processing database GBase 8t, innovatively adding virtual shared cluster capability to support shared cluster architecture. Speaking on future product plans, Chairman Cui Weili announced that in 2016, GBase will launch the GBase 8t shared‑nothing cluster, a highly challenging technical concept in the OLTP domain and a global technical problem. At this point, Chinese databases can already support the country’s strategy for self‑reliance and security, even being deployed in some core and high‑end application systems. The functionality, performance, and stability of Chinese databases are closing in on mainstream foreign databases, with costs and services superior to foreign products. GBase, through continuous refinement of databases in real‑world applications, drives the synchronized optimization and adaptation of hardware and software, thereby accelerating the industry’s rapid development. In the autonomous ecosystem of core components, Chinese servers, operating systems, and middleware have developed relatively well, while Chinese chips remain the most challenging.
