Advancing the Domestic IT Ecosystem, Powering China Re with GBase.
Partnering with SoftRainbow, Coremail, and TongTech for China Re’s Domestic IT Transformation with GBase
Recently, the database domestic replacement project of China Re Group has been completed and accepted. GBase database, together with SoftRainbow, Coremail, TongTech, China Electronics Corporation (CEC), and other vendors, successfully completed the IT localization for three entities: China Re Group, China Re P&C, and China Re Life. This effort built a comprehensive domestic ecosystem and delivered GBase’s value.
Project Overview
With the widespread adoption of cloud computing, big data, and artificial intelligence, China Re Group has raised its IT application requirements, making digital transformation an imperative. To strengthen technological independence, ensure the smooth advancement of IT application improvements, and effectively enhance the Group’s digital service capabilities, replacing databases within China Re’s systems became essential.
To meet the requirements of the localized environment, the OA and email systems of the three entities—China Re Group, China Re P&C, and China Re Life—were upgraded to support internal office management. The primary tasks included a smooth migration from the existing environment to the new domestic environment while ensuring stable operation of existing business functions, without impacting internal office workflows.
Project Outcomes
During the implementation of this domestic replacement project, China Re Group, through technical exploration and collaboration with major domestic enterprises, achieved for the first time the deployment of full-stack domestic technology across its various systems.
The project involved driving localization across three entities (the Group headquarters, P&C reinsurance, and life reinsurance). By sharing resources, leveraging complementary strengths with other vendors, and optimizing efforts, the localization for all three was completed efficiently with relatively limited resources.
In terms of industry breakthroughs, the GBase database, together with the SoftRainbow OA system and TongTech middleware, achieved the first deployment of several key domestic products within the financial industry ecosystem.
This project adopted the GBase 8s RHAC data cluster solution (1 primary + 2 RHAC high-availability cluster architecture). The OA system accessed the RHAC cluster through GBase 8s’s CM (Connection Manager). In the event of a primary node failure, the standby node can take over as the primary within one minute. The failover is completely transparent to the application, with minimal business interruption, zero data loss, and a seamless user experience. It also provides load balancing and read-write separation, increasing concurrent data access while ensuring high data availability.
RHAC is based on database logical log replication technology. Through the Connection Manager, the cluster enables mutual takeover between primary and standby servers. When the primary is active, the standby can handle read operations such as queries and reporting, achieving load balancing. When the primary fails, the standby automatically takes over and assumes the primary role.
Application Benefits
Achieving strategic autonomy and control: It sets a positive example for the financial industry to advance the “de-IOE” strategy, accelerate the implementation of domestic “secure and controllable” regulatory requirements, and promote the evolution of industry technology architecture;
Fully compatible and adaptable domestic OLTP database: GBase 8s supports all domestic servers and storage, fully meeting the requirements of banking customers for an all-domestic system, and providing strong data security for core business systems;
Building a fairly comprehensive domestic industry ecosystem: While delivering more cost-effective products, it offers custom development to make products more mature and aligned with actual business needs. It also provides good business scalability and enhanced system security while ensuring processing efficiency.
The success of this project signifies recognition of GBase technology by a major Chinese financial group, and marks another step forward for China’s IT development. As domestic substitution gains increasing support, GBase is committed to leveraging its technical expertise to contribute to the development of domestic databases and national data security with its own strength.
