Reflections on Learning the GBase 8a Database

Why I Joined the Training
Driven by work and personal interest, I wanted to gain a thorough understanding of the current development stage and industry landscape of Chinese databases. More importantly, I hoped to delve into both the theory and practice of Chinese database technologies to deepen my knowledge of related products and sharpen my technical skills.
My Experience Using GBase
During this training, I systematically learned about the GBase database for the first time. Two personal takeaways stood out: On the development side, there are strong similarities—GBase, Oracle, and MySQL all follow SQL development standards, providing a familiar interface and shared language specifications. This makes it relatively easy for engineers accustomed to Oracle or MySQL to get up to speed. However, at the underlying storage and management level, GBase differs significantly from Oracle and MySQL, demanding new expertise from database administrators. In terms of pure performance, GBase shows clear technical advantages in bulk data ingestion and associative queries, though its capabilities in complex analytical functions could be further improved. What interests me most is transaction processing under high concurrency—specifically, read-write consistency when multiple users operate simultaneously—and whether GBase can fully meet business requirements.
Impressions of the GBASE Training
I am very grateful to General Data Technology Co., Ltd. (GBASE) for providing this systematic training opportunity on Chinese databases. Throughout this period, through video lectures, environment setup, hands-on labs, and instructor guidance, I was able to learn GBase 8a both theoretically and practically. The instructors’ careful preparation made the learning, deployment, and operation processes smooth and productive—I have gained a great deal.
This initial training on the Chinese distributed database GBase 8a gave me insights into the sharding principles and technical strengths of China-developed columnar databases, which have secured GBase 8a an important place in commercial database ecosystems that demand high reliability and availability. Compared with Oracle, GBase 8a is simpler to deploy and manage, and its GBaseDataStudio tool makes GUI-based administration even easier, which should speed up user adoption and popularity.
Through this training, I have gained a clearer picture of the evolution, current state, and technical characteristics of Chinese databases. Supplemented by other online resources, I now understand the taxonomy, leading brands, market rankings, and development status of Chinese database products. While problems inherited from a short history—shallow technical foundations and low market share—remain, Chinese databases represent a major breakthrough despite a lack of long‑term technical accumulation. Seeing so many different types of Chinese databases emerge, grow, and find real-world applications, I firmly believe that Chinese databases will assume an increasingly critical role and deliver greater value in the nation’s future digitalization journey. As the country continues to prioritize information security, data security, and core technologies, Chinese databases are bound to enjoy an ever‑expanding development horizon.
This training was incredibly rewarding and has further increased my interest in the Chinese database GBase 8a. I hope we can soon launch more advanced training courses for this product, with more hands‑on content covering development, optimization, and troubleshooting. In the next phase, I would also like to see comparative sessions highlighting the functional advantages over Oracle and MySQL, so that we can clearly identify where GBase 8a excels. This will help us find suitable use cases in our work and contribute to the wider adoption of Chinese databases.
