Four! GBASE full-stack databases selected for the Outstanding Case Studies of the Financial Industry Database Innovation and Development Report
Databases are the cornerstone of financial information systems and have become both a critical challenge and a focal point in financial innovation and digital transformation. In recent years, financial institutions have increasingly adopted mature Chinese database products, deploying various types of databases across diverse business scenarios. This not only supports financial business innovation and development but also progressively strengthens the secure and controllable capabilities of databases in the financial industry.
The "Financial Industry Database Innovation and Development Report (2023)" has recently been released. Starting from the current state of database adoption in the financial sector, the report summarizes experiences, analyzes challenges, and provides recommendations revolving around key areas of industry interest. It also offers valuable references for innovative database development in finance through a collection of outstanding application cases.
Among the selected cases, four GBase-based implementations were honored: the Agricultural Bank of China's Big Data Platform with GBase 8a, Bank of China's Data Warehouse with GBase 8a, Sichuan Bank's Anti-Money Laundering System on Core Financial Business with GBase 8s, and a multi-model multi-state distributed database deployment with GBase 8c in a bank's core business domain. Among all selected enterprises, GBASE had the highest number of recognized cases, with four simultaneous selections; it covered the widest product portfolio as all three core products were included; and its deployments spanned two categories—large state-owned banks and city commercial banks. This has drawn widespread industry attention.
GBase 8a in Practice — Agricultural Bank of China Big Data Platform
The Agricultural Bank of China's Big Data Platform is a self-built, bank-wide integrated system for data collection, processing, and servicing. Data is sourced from nearly a hundred systems—including core banking, credit, accounting, and risk management—and undergoes cleansing, transformation, integration, and aggregation to form high-value data models. It provides in-depth big data analysis and mining for all business domains and scenarios, comprehensively supporting asset/liability management, operations management, risk management, regulatory reporting, and other applications, effectively boosting business quality and efficiency.
GBase 8a in Practice — Bank of China Data Warehouse
Seizing the opportunity of digital transformation, Bank of China has built a new digital asset operations service system termed "Three Horizontals, Two Verticals, and One Thread." The "Three Horizontals" involve building a unified group-wide data platform with a three-tier architecture of "Data + Analysis + Presentation," providing comprehensive, agile, and refined capabilities for data asset sharing, analytical applications, service delivery, and value creation. The data warehouse is a critical component of the data layer. Bank of China uses GBase 8a MPP Cluster to host dozens of applications, including its data warehouse, risk data mart, audit system, SAS model management platform, standardized monitoring data reporting platform, and reporting system. Over a thousand servers have been deployed cumulatively, managing dozens of petabytes of data. In 2020, Bank of China began a comprehensive upgrade of its GBase 8a MPP Cluster environment, covering hardware, operating systems, and more.
GBase 8s in Practice — Sichuan Bank Anti-Money Laundering System
Sichuan Bank, the first and only provincial-level incorporated bank in Sichuan Province, was established against the backdrop of the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle being elevated to a national strategy and is poised to be the most vital financial support unit for the future development of the western region's economy. Anti-money laundering (AML) efforts are essential for maintaining a robust financial system and upholding fair market economic order, playing a significant role in combating corruption and other financial crimes. The AML system essentially covers all transaction data across the bank, posing a major challenge for the database in terms of storing and computing massive historical datasets. Operating with both OLAP and OLTP workloads, the system conducts daily large-value transaction reviews, risk ratings, and suspicious case analysis, and reports identified results to the People's Bank of China.
GBase 8c in Practice — Multi-Model, Multi-State Distributed Database for a Bank's Core Business
With the rise of mobile internet, internet finance has flourished. Building on their inherent strengths, commercial banks are gradually incorporating mobile internet technologies and business models to explore digitalization in areas such as internet payment, consumer finance, and wealth management, seeking deployable solutions with cloud-native, distributed, and full-stack innovation capabilities. In 2022, General Data Technology's GBase 8c multi-model, multi-state database supported this bank's technological innovation, progressively enabling the distributed exploration and innovative upgrade of multiple business systems, including corporate/retail lending, risk control, future banking, and an internet middle platform.
