All four GBase database products have achieved the highest-level certification for GB 18030-2022.
On August 17, 2023, the standards promotion conference for the mandatory national standard GB 18030-2022, "Information Technology – Chinese Coded Character Set," and the launch event for the first batch of certified products were held in Beijing. All four GBase database products have passed GB 18030-2022 Level 3 certification – the highest implementation level – making GBase one of the first database vendors to receive this certification.
GB 18030-2022 officially took effect on August 1 of this year. According to the Standardization Law of the People's Republic of China, all products capable of Chinese information processing and exchange that are produced, sold, imported, or provided within China must comply with the latest GB 18030-2022 standard.
As one of the few mandatory standards in China’s IT sector, GB 18030-2022 defines 88,115 Chinese characters and radicals, along with encodings for 10 minority scripts, and categorizes them into three implementation levels. It serves as the foundation for Chinese information processing and interoperability across software and hardware products. The standard mandates that all IT products and systems used for government services and public services across all industry sectors listed in GB/T 4754, “Industrial Classification for National Economic Activities,” must fully enforce Implementation Level 3.
With the rapid proliferation of information systems, text data increasingly relies on standardized character sets. As a foundational software platform, a database's level of character set support directly determines the entire system's text processing capability. Among the first group of database vendors to pass the certification testing, all four GBase database products were evaluated at the highest implementation level – Implementation Level 3.
GBase has long been actively participating in the implementation of Chinese encoding standards. For its outstanding performance in this standards implementation effort, it was awarded a certificate of honor as one of the first products to pass the certification test.
Having its full-stack database portfolio certified at the highest implementation level against the new national standard fully demonstrates that GBase databases highly meet the text processing needs of various systems and deliver an excellent Chinese-language user experience. Looking ahead, GBase will continue to drive the adoption and implementation of relevant standards, elevating its database products’ Chinese information processing capabilities and contributing to the high-quality development of China’s language and IT industry.
