Shining Bright | GBase Takes Center Stage at DTCC 2023

From August 16 to 18, 2023, the 14th China Database Technology Conference (DTCC 2023), hosted by IT168 together with its technical communities ITPUB and ChinaUnix, took place at the Beijing International Convention Center. GBase showcased its latest database innovations and scenario-based solutions, and delivered keynote speeches in two dedicated sessions: The Path to Self-Reliant Financial Databases (Part I) and Distributed Database In-House Development and Deployment.

A Self-Reliant Data Foundation: Powering Deeper Fintech Innovation

Wu Gang, General Manager of GBase’s Financial Industry Department, delivered a keynote titled “A Self-Reliant Digital Foundation: Full-Stack Innovation and Practice in Finance” in the dedicated session on the path to self-reliant financial databases, sharing GBase’s innovative practices in building self-reliant databases and empowering large-scale digital transformation for financial customers.

He emphasized that when choosing a database, financial users should consider applicable business scenarios, data types, data sources, and whether the focus is on offline mining or online analytics, so as to weigh the pros and cons of each database and adopt the most suitable technical architecture. GBase database provides full-stack solutions for database selection that meets the IT innovation needs of all industries, offering four key strengths:

Distributed Architecture and Big Data Processing: Delivers distributed storage and computing power to efficiently handle massive data and high-concurrency access, supporting complex analytics and real-time queries.

In-House Distributed Database   Multi-Model, Multi-Modal Flexibility for Every Scenario

Zhang Yi, General Manager of GBase’s GBase 8c Product Operations Department, delivered a keynote titled “Trinity in One, Versatile in Every Dimension: Unveiling the Core Technologies of GBase’s Multi-Model, Multi-Modal Distributed Database” in the dedicated session on in-house distributed database deployment.

Zhang Yi explained: In recent years, driven by the demands of internet business, the evolution of microservices-based IT architectures, and supportive national policies, distributed databases have been booming. High concurrency and high throughput requirements in internet, especially mobile internet, scenarios; extreme performance needs for events such as flash sales, flash promotions, and holiday travel peaks; and the need for cost reduction have all spurred the vigorous growth of distributed database technology.

Looking at the overall evolution of distributed databases, it roughly went through three stages: sharding and table splitting, distributed middleware, and native distributed databases.

On the path to in-house distributed database development, GBase has launched GBase 8c, a multi-model, multi-modal native distributed database that supports multiple storage modes—including row-based, column-based, and in-memory—as well as various deployment forms such as standalone, primary-standby, and fully distributed.

In his presentation, Zhang Yi provided a detailed introduction to the architecture and features of GBase 8c, and gave an in-depth analysis of its core technologies such as adaptive transaction processing, global deadlock resolution, and transaction state preservation. He also shared real-world use cases, including the application of GBase 8c in the internet platform of a city commercial bank, the scaling and upgrade of a provincial health code system, and the domestic replacement project for a market regulation business system.

After the speech, Zhang Yi was interviewed by DTCC organizers, where they discussed distributed database technology in depth. The interview video will be released in due course.
