Tianjin Rural Commercial Bank Expands GBASE Database Deployment to Build a Trusted Financial Data Foundation

Published on 2023-11-02

Recently, Tianjin Rural Commercial Bank (TRCB) announced the procurement of domestically developed foundational software for its Data Analysis Lab, with GBASE as the database product supplier. Through this procurement, the bank will further expand its GBase database nodes to meet growing data analysis demands.

A History of Self-Reliant Financial Infrastructure

The partnership between GBASE and TRCB dates back to the replacement of the bank's Netezza data warehouse. As a critical platform system, the data warehouse stores data assets from various business lines, involving core banking, online banking, personal loans, and retail systems. The data volume is massive and complex, covering thousands of small, complex tables and numerous large fact tables. To ensure stable operation of the data warehouse, mitigate data leakage risks, safeguard financial security, and build a self-reliant foundational data platform, replacing the legacy system with a domestic alternative and migrating data was imperative.

Smooth Replacement with GBASE Database

As a leading Chinese database vendor, GBASE has consistently led China's analytical database market for many consecutive years, with extensive data warehouse replacement cases and implementation experience. It has completed over 100 large-scale client replacements of foreign data warehouses such as Teradata, Netezza, Sybase IQ, and Greenplum, helping users build secure and efficient data foundation platforms.

In TRCB's overall data architecture, the data warehouse acts as a critical link between upstream and downstream. Upstream, it ingests data from various systems and different data source types, completing data cleansing, integration, and standardization before loading and aggregation. Downstream, it serves systems such as business analytics, regulatory reporting, risk control, and performance evaluation. Therefore, without making significant changes to the existing architecture, the bank built a high-performance, flexibly scalable domestic data warehouse system based on GBase Database, able to continuously handle incremental data growth, achieving a smooth replacement and complete migration of massive data.

Application Outcomes

TRCB deployed several management nodes, over ten data nodes—totaling dozens of nodes in a GBase 8a cluster—to build the data warehouse, completed full data migration, met future growth demands, and achieved improvements across multiple dimensions.

Efficient Data Storage

Adopting an advanced design architecture, massive data is efficiently compressed into storage, freeing up storage space.

Significant Performance Improvement

Supports TB-level data loading, export, and processing, significantly boosting batch-processing performance.

High System Availability

Multi-level high availability technologies fully ensure system availability, with 24/7 stable operation and no single point of failure risk.

Ensuring Financial Security

The core data warehouse system is built entirely on a domestically developed platform, fully independent, secure, and reliable, comprehensively enhancing the data security and business security of the bank's existing data.

This additional procurement of GBase Database by TRCB to support its Data Analysis Lab deepens the collaboration and represents another recognition of GBASE's product capabilities and service quality. Going forward, GBASE will continue to focus on independent innovation in core technologies, accelerate product deployment across industries, and deliver data products and services to more users, unlocking the value of data.
