Data is the cornerstone that enables financial institutions to drive business development, enhance service quality and efficiency, and deliver intelligent experiences to users. As the core component for storing and managing data, the choice of a database is particularly critical. In this database "election," a city commercial bank in Hebei selected GBase 8a to replace Oracle, supporting the domestic digital and intelligent upgrade of its next-generation anti-money laundering system and audit system.

As the first local joint-stock city commercial bank in the city, this bank has always focused on serving the local economy, small and medium-sized enterprises, and residents, providing comprehensive, high-quality, and efficient financial services for development in all sectors.

The anti-money laundering system and the audit system, key components of the bank’s foundational data service platform, were originally built on Oracle. To strengthen control over data assets and related software and hardware, and to improve data utilization efficiency, the bank decided to upgrade and replace the legacy Oracle system. Within the existing technical architecture, the goal was to accommodate long-term business data growth and enhance the security and independent controllability of data assets.

To establish a high-performance, flexibly scalable domestic database system that meets growing data demands, the upgrade project required the following:

Ø Domestic platform: The architecture must support domestic software and hardware platforms, including the operating system and servers;

Ø Seamless migration: Replace the existing foreign Oracle system, complete historical business migration, support batch data import, and provide custom functions to ensure seamless transition;

Ø Business growth: Provide reliable storage, management, and usage for incremental data over the next three years, with the platform capable of elastic scaling as data grows;

Ø Business performance: Improve the performance of ad-hoc queries on business data.

 

Deploying GBase for Domestic Digital and Intelligent Upgrade

To this end, the new-generation database system built a six-node GBase 8a cluster to handle the storage and computation of all structured data, performing data processing, transformation, and analysis tasks. A data extraction tool was used to migrate data from the original Oracle database to GBase 8a, achieving seamless data migration. This not only preserved the original Oracle functionalities but also increased data storage capacity and computational performance. In addition, by working with upstream application vendors, the bank successfully completed the business migration and implemented product deployment and adaptation.

The new database system achieved its intended goals, delivering dual value in both technology and business, as shown below:
