Safeguarding the Ride: GBase Database Enables Shenzhen Metro's "Iron Dragon" Transit Network

Published on 2025-02-27

Rail transit carries the daily commutes of urban residents, while Shenzhen Metro as a benchmark for urban rail transit in China, recorded a peak daily ridership of 10.3085 million, a public transit modal share of 74.22%, and a network intensity of 14,900 passenger trips per km per day across 567.1 kilometers of urban rail lines, ranking first in the country. Behind the daily travels of millions of passengers, the AFC system built with GBase database quietly supports the efficient operation of this "Iron Dragon".

The AFC (Automatic Fare Collection) system is an automated system built on computer, communication, and network technologies, providing a full range of ticketing services such as ticket sales, validation, fare calculation, and billing. At high-traffic stations, a stable and reliable AFC system enables efficient station operations, delivering a convenient and fast travel experience for passengers.

As early as 2022, GBase database supported the launch and operation of Shenzhen Metro's Phase IV project. Shenzhen Metro's Phase IV project adopted a full-stack domestically developed solution, with its Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) system, the Automatic Clearing Center (ACC) system, the Multi-line Central Computer (CLC) system, and the internet ticketing management system all using GBase database as the underlying database, supporting ticketing, entry/exit processing, business management, passenger flow analysis, and revenue analysis for tens of millions of metro passengers.

Beyond Shenzhen, GBase database has been deployed on more than 70 lines across 27 cities nationwide, including Chongqing, Xi'an, Chengdu, Zhengzhou, Hangzhou, Shenyang, and Jinan, providing efficient, convenient, and stable metro travel services for the public.

The successful deployment in rail transit marks a major breakthrough in the independent innovation of domestic databases. Looking ahead, GBASE (General Data Technology) will continue to focus on independent innovation, drive product iteration and upgrades, solidify the "data foundation" of smart transportation, and safeguard the daily travels of every resident.
