Published on 2022-08-01

The second session of the 2022 GBase Training Center's "GBase 8s Database June 2022 College Student Special Training" concluded in mid-July. This training, offered by the company as a professional database hands-on course for university students, featured a curriculum combining theory and practice on China-developed databases, attracting enthusiastic registration from students. Participants were mainly third-year students from universities such as Tianjin University of Science & Technology and Tianjin Software University, with a small number of GBase users also joining. A total of 540 people registered, and college students accounted for 70%. After two weeks of learning, 373 people took the GBase 8s certification exam on July 7, and 269 passed, obtaining the GBase 8s Database Administrator certificate.

A total of 103 people scored 90 or above. To highlight the excellent performance of college students, this training set up two outstanding student lists: Outstanding College Student List and Outstanding In-Service Student List. College students demonstrated strong learning abilities, with exam results that were by no means inferior to, and even better than, those of working professionals. All students selected for the outstanding lists will receive a free printed GBase Database Administrator certificate!

To ensure effective training outcomes, a dedicated WeChat study group was organized, with college students appointing group leaders to facilitate communication between students and instructors. During the learning process, several enthusiastic participants emerged who actively helped others, answered questions, and daily organized group Q&As. Based on instructor recommendations and peer evaluations, six students from Tianjin University of Science & Technology were selected for the "Helpfulness Award." We appreciate their dedicated efforts!

The training concluded successfully. Printed certificates began shipping on July 25. For some students at Tianjin University of Science & Technology, certificates will be mailed to their class advisors after the new semester begins. Other certificates are being shipped as normal, though delivery may be delayed in some regions due to pandemic conditions. Please keep an eye out for your certificate!

What Previous Participants Say About the Training

Li Jiaming, Class of 2019, Internet of Things Engineering, Tianjin University of Science & Technology:

As an undergraduate, my hands-on development experience and knowledge are not yet comprehensive or deep, so I mainly deal with superficial things. GBase 8s, as a relational database, employs a multi-process, multi-threaded architecture that enhances overall system processing capability. 8s has excellent recovery capabilities for emergencies such as power outages, with log preservation and recovery given top priority. It also features smart large object data spaces. One unique datatype that impressed me was the currency type, which can be displayed based on environment variable settings, stored internally as decimals and presented to users with currency symbols. My first impression of GBase was that it is easy to understand, quick to get started with, and highly portable.

Yao Anmin, Class of 2019, School of Artificial Intelligence, Tianjin University of Science & Technology:

This training offered detailed courses tailored for beginners, covering everything from GBase 8s installation to administrator commands. The overall curriculum was well-structured and comprehensive, with a dedicated study group where instructors answered questions. I gained a relatively thorough understanding of the 8s database product. Being selected as a group leader was also a good exercise for me, and I hope to be more meticulous in my future work and continue to improve.

Zhang Yongqi, Class of 2019, Internet of Things Engineering, Tianjin University of Science & Technology:

I am honored to have participated in this June 2022 GBase 8s China-developed database training. Through it, I learned about GBase 8s and practiced installing and deploying it in a Linux environment, mastering basic syntax, O&M management, backup, and export. The training schedule was well-planned, with two hours of study per day that did not intrude too much on our free time. Each session included practice exercises and a mistake-notebook to reinforce what we learned. The WeChat study group had dedicated instructors who promptly answered any questions. Overall, I studied GBase 8s in a relaxed, conducive learning environment, though I still need more practice with specific usage and Linux commands. I will continue to learn further.

Zhang Yahui, Technical Support Engineer, Founder International Software (Beijing) Co., Ltd.:

In my work, I have always paid attention to the development of China-developed databases and actively participate in related activities. When I learned about the June technical training on GBase Database, I joined as a beginner. GBase 8s is a relational database suitable for OLTP scenarios. The training covered everything from basic installation and configuration and DDL/DML operations on database objects, to understanding data types, data migration, backup, and recovery. It also combined theory with hands-on practice to deepen our understanding, giving me a solid overall grasp of the 8s database.
