Reflections on GBASE Training
By Zhang Yue
I am honored to have participated in GBASE's training program during the summer before my senior year. I study at Tianjin University of Science and Technology and am about to enter my final year. During this pivotal summer, I was delighted to have the opportunity, organized by my university, to learn about China's homegrown databases and gain foundational knowledge through this training.
Before the training began, I was selected as the group leader for Team 5. However, due to a lack of confidence in my abilities, I initially chose to step down from the role. After some reflection, I decided to embrace the challenge and dive into learning something new. Now that the training has concluded, the knowledge I absorbed during the sessions remains fresh in my memory. From the very first class introducing GBase 8s to the subsequent deep dives into data types, basic syntax, and finally, the review and certification exam, I gained a wealth of new knowledge in just 19 short days. Throughout this period, I experienced many things: the patience and passion of the GBASE instructors, the helpfulness and profound knowledge of the GBASE employees attending the training alongside us, and the recognition and support for this program from my fellow students. These seemingly ordinary interactions only strengthened my desire to delve deeper into China's homegrown database technologies. What started as a pursuit of academic credits gradually transformed into a genuine commitment to better understanding and learning about databases. I am truly pleased with this elevation in my mindset.
This practical training course was exceptionally well-suited for university students like us, whether in terms of schedule, learning model, or teaching methodology. It allowed us to acquire new skills without disrupting our own academic plans. Finally, I am very grateful to GBASE for organizing this training. As a university student, I will continue to explore foundational software related to China's homegrown databases and contribute my modest efforts to the nation's informatization development. I sincerely wish GBASE a future of enduring growth and ever-ascending success.
