Product Introduction and New Version Updates

GBase 8a MPP Cluster (hereinafter “8a Cluster”) is an independently developed, leading large‑scale distributed parallel database cluster system in China. It delivers the capabilities to meet the growing demands for data analysis, data mining, data backup, and ad‑hoc queries in various data‑intensive industries. It has been deployed at scale in hundreds of organizations, including the China Banking Regulatory Commission, the head office of Agricultural Bank of China, China Mobile, and the General Administration of Customs of China, with over 35,000 deployed nodes managing more than 400 PB of data.

  • V9.5.3 introduces over 100 feature requests. Compared with V9.5.2, the main improvements and enhancements are:

1. Enhanced Stability: GCware is decoupled from GCluster. The GCluster scheduling cluster, Data compute cluster, and GCware management cluster can be deployed independently, with clearer responsibilities. Node status monitoring mechanisms improve cluster stability, and node replacement processes are now more stable;

2. Performance Improvements: Multi‑instance deployment is supported to boost overall cluster performance, especially on NUMA architecture servers. Performance has been enhanced for small file loading, UNION queries, and dblink scenarios with high network latency;

3. Compatibility Enhancements: Improved compatibility with functions and syntax of heterogeneous databases such as Oracle, Greenplum, and Teradata. Support for loading data in ORC and JSON formats;

4. Security Enhancements: More granular management of DROP privileges and unmask data masking permissions. Transparent storage encryption now supports Chinese cryptographic algorithms, and Kafka security authentication is supported.

  • The GBase 8a MPP Cluster GDCA certification training has been upgraded, with 40% of the content updated. Key changes:

1. GCware and GCluster are separated and can be deployed on different nodes.

2. GBase 8a database provides a v9.5.3 no‑license free version; no license application is required.

3. GCluster has no limit on the number of nodes, while GCware nodes are limited to 64.

4. Instruction on the fundamentals of GBase 8a database v9.5.3 and introduction of new features.

Course Introduction

This course starts from scratch with 8a Cluster, covering the principles and basic usage of the 8a Cluster database. The program consists of two phases: learning and examination. 10 days of learning, 1 mock exam, and 2 certification exam attempts. The training and examination are organized in an online bootcamp format, enabling a structured, step‑by‑step approach to easily master the fundamentals of domestic databases.

Learning Objectives:

  • Help participants understand the working principles, feature characteristics, and deployment strategies of 8a Cluster, and establish basic concepts of MPP database architecture.

  • Enable participants to perform installation, management, and maintenance of the 8a Cluster database, and to resolve common cluster status anomalies.

  • Enable participants to perform data operations on a single virtual cluster database, including CRUD (create, read, update, delete) operations, user privilege management and assignment, and querying system tables.

Training Schedule

  • Feb 26 – Mar 5: Registration

  • Mar 6 – 15: One module unlocked at 6:00 AM each day for learning

  • Mar 16 – 20: Certification exam (2 attempts)

Training Outline

Target Audience

  • Targeted at database administrators, operations staff, and developers;

  • Participants should have basic Linux and database knowledge.

Training Process

  • Registration: To participate, you must register first. Once registered, you can start learning (accessible from mobile, tablet, or computer).

  • Email Notification: Participants will receive training notifications for the course start and exam day one day in advance. Please check your mailbox (make sure your email address is correct).

  • WeChat Study Group: After registration, the instructor’s enterprise WeChat will be displayed. We recommend adding the instructor as a contact and sending a message with “8a, registered name and mobile number”. After verification, you will be invited to the learning exchange group (participation is voluntary; group rules apply, and only relevant participants are allowed).

  • Course Format: Pre‑recorded online video courses. Each day during the learning phase, one module is unlocked at 6:00 AM, and you can arrange your own study schedule.

  • Exercises: In‑class quizzes after each lesson plus a mock exam to promptly test your learning outcomes.

  • Certification Exam: Online exam. Upon meeting the learning conditions, exam discount vouchers will be issued. Those who pass the exam will receive a free GBase Management Engineer Certification certificate (electronic).

Registration Method

To register for the GBase 8a database certification training, please scan the QR code with WeChat to sign up!

What Past Participants Say

Technology Department Manager, a bank in Macau: This remote training is very convenient. Not only is it free, but cloud servers are also provided for practice. The key highlight is the detailed explanation in the videos. The instructor answers questions patiently and promptly in the group. We came with questions and found targeted solutions. For example, the session on clients corrected some of our previous inaccurate usage.

Auditor at the Head Office of Bank of Jiangxi: The training model is innovative, focusing on participant experience. Unlike a one‑way lecture format, it emphasizes interaction and communication. After the training, course notes are collated and shared with participants. Meanwhile, after‑class exercises and phased tests play an important role in reinforcing learning outcomes and verifying effectiveness. The instructors’ Q&A and detailed explanations provide a great starting point for learners of all backgrounds to quickly grasp, deepen, and get hands‑on with the product for subsequent use.

Technical Expert, Technology Department, Bank of Chongqing: To address performance bottlenecks of centralized databases in data analysis applications, Bank of Chongqing compared multiple products in terms of high availability, stability, cluster features, and cluster performance, and ultimately chose GBASE GBase 8a MPP Cluster to build its next‑generation data warehouse. Through this training, I gained a deeper understanding and hands‑on opportunities in the fundamental architecture, core technologies, applicable scenarios, and SQL usage of GBase 8a MPP Cluster, providing a technical reserve for future work.

Big Data Project Manager, Hand Enterprise Solutions: The training spans about two weeks, requiring only 1‑2 hours per day. It covers GBase history, features, deployment, routine use, and monitoring, which is very comprehensive. Unit quizzes are required before the final certification. Top performers and highly engaged participants may even get exam and certification fee waivers—a very well‑thought‑out arrangement, like a carrot‑and‑stick approach. Haha, I like this model: it stimulates interest, encourages broad participation, and avoids the awkwardness of a superficial program. I strongly recommend those who haven’t joined to sign up for the next round.

Architect at an archival technology company in Hubei: The free GBase training opportunity gave me a brand‑new understanding of GBASE’s products. The training content was extensive; I spent a few days on concentrated study. The video content was very useful, as most of it I could apply directly in testing. The SQL compatibility is also very good—except for some specific syntax, most is compatible with common database products. I was even able to migrate previous projects to GBase databases with ease. One thing worth mentioning is that the training is free, compared to similar training from other vendors that can cost thousands. I think this demonstrates integrity: GBASE is building a genuine ecosystem rather than chasing money. I believe such a conscientious company produces excellent products.
