Upgrade Notes | This is the all-new GBase 8a certification training you haven't learned before!

Published on 2024-02-29

With the start of the spring semester in 2024, the GBase 8a MPP Cluster GDCA certification training has been completely upgraded. The training materials have been updated from version 8a 9.5.2 to the latest 9.5.3, with revisions in chapters covering principles, installation, and management. The GBase official website offers the 8a v9.5.3 free edition installation package for download. To help both new and existing trainees understand the updates to the 8a certification training, we explain them from three aspects: 9.5.3 version product features, installation package changes, and training content updates.

Introduction to GBase 8a MPP Cluster V9.5.3

In 2021, General Data Technology officially released GBase 8a MPP Cluster V9.5.3. After more than two years of continuous updates and iterations, its functions have been increasingly refined, with over 100 feature requirements implemented. It has become the mainstream version of GBase 8a MPP Cluster promoted to the market.

Compared with V9.5.2, V9.5.3 mainly features the following improvements and enhancements:

1. Stability enhancement: GCware is decoupled and separated from GCluster. The three functional clusters—GCluster scheduling cluster, Data compute cluster, and GCware management cluster—can be deployed independently with clearer responsibilities. Supports node status monitoring mechanism to improve cluster stability and enhance stability during node replacement.

2. Performance improvement: Supports multi-instance deployment to improve overall cluster performance, especially on NUMA architecture servers; improves small file loading performance, union query performance, and performance under high network latency scenarios for dblink.

3. Improved compatibility: Enhanced function and syntax compatibility with heterogeneous databases such as Oracle, Greenplum, Teradata; supports loading of ORC and JSON format data.

4. Enhanced security: Refined drop permission management, unmask data masking permission management; transparent storage encryption supports national cryptographic algorithms; supports Kafka security authentication.

How to Obtain the GBase 8a MPP Cluster V9.5.3 Free Edition Installation Package

To facilitate learning for trainees and testing for users, the GBase 8a MPP Cluster V9.5.3 free edition installation package is available on the GBase official website (www.gbase.cn).

The GBase 8a MPP Cluster V9.5.3 free edition is identical to the full version in terms of usage, with some limitations on cluster scale and certain features. It is for personal use only. If you intend to use it in a production environment, we recommend calling the hotline at 400-013-9696 or contacting GBase sales representatives to purchase the commercial version.

  • Free edition limitations:

1. Maximum 4 nodes.
2. Maximum capacity per node is 500 GB (total maximum capacity 2 TB).
3. Cluster concurrency is limited to 10 (the total maximum concurrent tasks including DDL, DML, and DQL is less than 10).
4. Supported platforms: x86 + CentOS 7, x86 + CentOS 8, ARM + CentOS 8.

  • Free edition download method

You need to register a GBase official website account at www.gbase.cn and complete real-name verification. After logging in, you can select and download the appropriate 8a free edition installation package for x86+CentOS 7, x86+CentOS 8, or ARM+CentOS 8 as needed.

GBase 8a MPP Cluster Certification Training Content Upgraded to V9.5.3

In 2021, the GBase Training Center launched the 'GBase Academy' platform for online training. The GBase 8a MPP Cluster GDCA training materials were based on the then-mainstream version V9.5.2, and the accompanying 8a installation package was also V9.5.2, which required a license when installing the 8a database.

As of 2024, version 9.5.3 has become the mainstream version of GBase 8a MPP Cluster promoted to the market. Compared with V9.5.2, the architecture of the virtual cluster in GBase 8a MPP Cluster V9.5.3 has changed, with gcware separated, so that gcware cluster and GCluster cluster nodes can be deployed separately. This leads to changes in installation, service start/stop, and management tool display, while SQL syntax usage remains largely the same. The 8a GDCA training materials have been updated in line with the product upgrade, synchronizing only the core technology, installation, and management content, while the original SQL training content remains unchanged. The main changes are as follows:

The training materials have been upgraded from 952 to 953, with 40% of the training content updated. Correspondingly, the certification exam questions have also been updated by 40%. In 2024, the 8a certification training will be conducted using the new training materials. Previous trainees who have already attended training and earned the GBase 8a Management Engineer certificate can learn about the new features in 953. Upgrading from 952 to 953 falls within the same major version V9 and is only a minor version change, so there will be no change reflected on the certification certificate, and retaking the training and exam is not required.

The first certification training after the GBase 8a upgrade to 953 will be held on March 6, 2024. The course outline is as follows:
