From Industry Trends to Technical Innovation: GBase Database Delivers on the Directions Outlined in the Database Development Research Report (2026)
On July 9, 2026, the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) released the Database Development Research Report (2026) at the Trusted Database Conference. The report shows that China's database market reached USD 9.49 billion in 2025, and is projected to grow to RMB 97.974 billion by 2028. Domestic databases are moving beyond peripheral deployments to tackle mission-critical core systems across finance, telecommunications, and energy. GBase's full-stack database portfolio was recognized across 21 categories in the industry landscape, received "Leader" rankings in both financial and telecommunications analytical databases, and secured transaction-processing database coverage across seven industries — demonstrating real-world industry impact that meets the rising expectations for domestic database solutions.
Steady Market Growth
Domestic Databases Enter a High-Quality Development Phase
The report indicates that the global database market reached USD 131.6 billion in 2025, with China accounting for USD 9.49 billion — approximately 7.2% of the global total. By 2028, China's database market is expected to reach RMB 97.974 billion, representing a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 13.06%. The public cloud database segment showed particularly strong performance, reaching RMB 44.265 billion in 2025, up 15.2% year-over-year.
In terms of the global competitive landscape, as of June 2026, there were 394 database product providers worldwide, with China ranking second with 94 vendors. The number of database products in China stabilized and rebounded to 182 in 2026 after a period of rapid growth. The report explicitly states that China's database industry has transitioned from scale-driven to value-driven growth, entering a phase focused on technological capability and ecosystem synergy — the "deep waters" of high-quality development.
Within this landscape, GBase's performance stands out. On the internationally recognized DB-Engines ranking, GBase has consistently ranked among the top four domestic databases and is the only independent commercial database in that top tier. As a founding member of the IT Application Innovation Working Committee (Member No. 0048) and a national-level "Specialized, Refined, Differentiated, and Innovative" (SRDI) enterprise, GBASE has built a comprehensive GBase product matrix covering transaction processing, analytical processing, and distributed transaction processing across all major scenarios. With over 100,000 deployed nodes and more than 500 PB of total data under management, GBASE serves tens of thousands of users across over 100 industries, including finance, telecommunications, government, and energy.
The Technological Shift Toward AI-Native Databases
Databases as the "Cognitive Infrastructure" for Intelligent Agents
The report identifies "database system paradigm shift toward AI-native" as a core technology trend. As AI agents become a new type of interaction subject for databases, the database is evolving from a "data storage container" into the "cognitive infrastructure" that supports agent perception, memory, and reasoning. The report highlights that AI-oriented databases must integrate relational, vector, full-text, and real-time data processing capabilities, delivering unified support for transaction processing, real-time analytics, multi-modal data management, and intelligent reasoning.
At the same time, Database Agents — powered by large language models — are emerging as a new engine for improving development and operations efficiency through autonomous tuning, diagnostics, and other capabilities. The report also notes that software-hardware co-optimization continues to deepen, with cloud-native, distributed, and shared-cluster deployment models developing in parallel.
GBase has made systematic progress along these trends. GBase 8a enables business users to query data through natural language via a DataAgent, leveraging an ontology-based semantic layer to eliminate AI "hallucinations." GBase 8s has undergone comprehensive kernel-level re-architecture — including in-memory MVCC, lock-free concurrency, and HK-Tree indexing — to meet the high-concurrency, historical-query, and real-time analytics demands of AI scenarios. GBase 8c, with its "multi-model, multi-form" design, integrates vector search, HTAP, storage-compute separation, and data branching into a single system, providing a unified data foundation for AI applications. All three core products have passed the national security and reliability assessment, covering major business scenarios including transaction processing, analytics, and distributed transaction processing.
Mission-Critical System Deployments
GBase Database Achieves Deep Industry-Wide Coverage
The report notes that domestic database applications are moving decisively from peripheral replacements to mission-critical core systems. Data-intensive industries such as finance, telecommunications, and energy are no longer pursuing a single architecture blindly; instead, they are adopting a pragmatic approach — deploying both centralized and distributed architectures in parallel based on actual workload requirements.
Financial Industry
Finance is the industry where GBase has the deepest and longest-standing presence. According to CCID Consulting's China Financial Industry Database Market Research Report (2025), GBase ranks among the top "Leaders" in both centralized and distributed categories across financial, banking, and insurance sectors, and ranks first in financial industry user penetration. To date, GBase databases have served over 240 financial institutions with more than 20,000 deployments. A major state-owned bank built a big data platform using a GBase-Hadoop integrated architecture, deploying over 7,000 nodes and managing more than 100 PB of data — the largest data warehouse deployment in China's financial sector during that period. Luzhou Bank replaced its legacy Oracle and multiple MySQL systems with GBase databases, reducing nighttime batch processing from 2.5–3 hours to approximately 30 minutes.
Telecommunications Industry
GBASE has served telecom operators since 2005. In 2014, it won a bid for China Mobile's centralized business analytics system — marking the first domestic database deployment in a core operator system. Today, GBase databases cover more than 60 group-level and provincial units across China Telecom, China Mobile, and China Unicom, with China Mobile alone deploying over 8,000 nodes managing 100 PB of data.
Government Sector
GBase databases are deployed in national-level government platforms, including the Henan Provincial Government's e-government system, the Ministry of Finance's national budget aggregation system, and the Ministry of Civil Affairs' Golden People Project. Coverage extends to more than 40 ministries and commissions — including development and reform, public security, taxation, finance, and customs — as well as all 32 provinces and municipalities directly under the central government.
Energy Industry
China's national pipeline network operator (PipeChina) uses GBase databases for its oil and gas pipeline SCADA systems, which have run continuously for over four years with zero major incidents and nearly 1,000 cumulative deployments. The State Grid dispatching system, built on the GBase 8s shared-storage database cluster, has achieved over 3,000 days of stable operation with zero downtime.
Transportation and Healthcare
GBase databases are now widely deployed in core business systems across China's aviation, railway, and over 70 subway lines, delivering stable data support for tens of millions of daily passenger trips. Shenzhen Metro, live since 2022, has reliably supported over 10 million daily passenger trips — a benchmark case for domestic databases in large-scale rail transit core systems. In healthcare, GBase has achieved standardized deployments as well. The Suzhou Branch of the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University successfully migrated its core business systems to GBase databases, completing a robust infrastructure upgrade.
In the China Database Industry Landscape (2026), GBase was recognized across 21 categories. Analytical databases were ranked as "Leaders" in both finance and telecommunications; transaction-processing databases were covered across finance, telecommunications, government, transportation, energy, manufacturing, and healthcare, with "Leader" rankings in telecom and government. The 2026 landscape introduced a new "Shared-Storage Architecture Database" category, and GBase was included — in April 2026, GBase 8s became the first database product in China to pass CAICT's "Shared-Storage Architecture Database Basic Capability" certification. In the database security domain, GBase was also recognized in the "Tamper-Resistant Database" category.
The Database Development Research Report (2026) paints a clear picture: China's database market is transitioning from scale-driven expansion to high-quality development, from peripheral replacement to mission-critical deployment, and from data storage to AI-native intelligent infrastructure. Looking ahead to the AI-native era, GBase will continue to deepen its industry-specific capabilities, leveraging independent innovation and core technologies to provide a robust data foundation for digital transformation across critical sectors.
