Kunlun Bank Basic Software Procurement Project
Project Overview
Background
Bank of Kunlun has been actively promoting the procurement of Chinese software, establishing annual plans for acquiring foundational software. To maximize software utilization, the bank planned to purchase licenses for operating systems, databases, middleware, and virtualization software to support its information system development. In line with Bank of Kunlun’s dual-technology-path database strategy, GBase 8s from General Data Technology Co., Ltd. (GBase) was selected as the preferred database. Currently, 14 business systems are running on GBase 8s.
Key Concerns
1) Automatic sub-second failover during system failures, requiring no manual intervention;
2) 24x7 business continuity;
3) A fully Chinese-made platform solution spanning servers, storage, and database, with the database fully compatible with domestic hardware platforms;
4) Fast query response on tables with tens of millions of rows, delivering a superior customer experience;
5) High concurrency support for over 2,000 concurrent users with rapid response.
Requirements
To meet its localization requirements, Bank of Kunlun selected GBase 8s V8.8 Enterprise Edition, a relational database from General Data Technology, to replace the existing DB2 database.
The migration involved transferring DB2-based Java applications and shell/Python scripts to GBase 8s. The new system must ensure 24x7 stable operations for business continuity, provide automatic sub-second failover during system failures without manual intervention, and support over 2,000 concurrent users with rapid response.
Solutions
SSC is a shared-storage cluster database designed to deliver the following capabilities:
High Availability: If a node fails, other nodes automatically take over, providing built-in disaster recovery to keep business systems running without interruption.
Scalability: As your data grows, simply add GBase DBT Cluster nodes to boost database processing power.
Application Transparency: Database failover is seamless, requiring zero configuration changes on the application side.
Application Results
Implementation Summary
The project has been successfully deployed and is now running in production. GBase 8s fully supports the stable operation of the FIDO Unified Authentication System, which handles biometric authentication for services such as mobile banking—covering both fingerprint and facial recognition. With mobile banking now widely adopted, GBase 8s meets the demands of high-concurrency, high-intensity application scenarios.
Outcomes and Value
Low Cost, High Availability: By leveraging SSC shared-storage clustering technology, the solution eliminates resource waste caused by idle standby nodes in traditional HA architectures. It also improves failover success rates and speeds, enhancing overall system availability at a lower hardware cost.
Secure and Controllable Nationalization in China: This is the only nationwide case where a fully domestically produced, secure, and controllable environment has been deployed in a critical information system and successfully put into production—demonstrating clear industry advancement. It provides valuable experience and an effective reference for reducing dependency on IOE (IBM, Oracle, EMC) and advancing domestic technology, serving as a positive catalyst.
Enriched Integration and Deployment Architecture: Verified through systematic testing, this project is highly replaceable, scalable, stable, available, and controllable. It can be rolled out across various management and transaction applications, enriching the standards for foundational technology architecture implementation.
