GBase 8c Unveiled at the Open Source Launch of China's First Financial Database Performance Testing Tool

On February 17, the open source launch of China's first financial database performance testing tool, hosted by the CAICT, was held online. At the event, CAICT, positioned as a national high-end professional think tank and an industrial innovation development platform, announced the open-sourcing of the testing tool and elaborated on its background, original intent, journey, and vision. GBase was invited to participate, and Zhang Yi, General Manager of the GBase 8c product line, delivered a keynote speech titled "Higher, Faster, Stronger: The Path to GBase 8c Performance Optimization."

A Thriving Chinese Database Market Makes Performance Evaluation a Challenge

Database performance evaluation is crucial for measuring database capabilities. Among all application scenarios, the most typical is the financial industry, which demands extremely high scalability, security, and compatibility from databases. Therefore, how to evaluate whether a database meets current application scenarios has become a challenging problem for users.

For a long time, database performance testing has relied on international TPC benchmarks. However, due to issues such as non-uniform tools and mismatched scenarios, these benchmarks fail to meet the needs of the current development stage of China's database industry.

To Do a Good Job, One Must First Sharpen One's Tools

In 2018, CAICT, together with Bank of Beijing, China Construction Bank, and leading enterprises from multiple fields, jointly designed and developed the financial database performance testing tool (DataBench-T). Using this tool, they conducted unified standard tests, effectively guiding database selection in the financial industry. At the beginning of 2022, in order for the tool to serve relevant parties faster and better, CAICT open-sourced DataBench-T.

Compared with foreign TPC series performance testing benchmarks, DataBench-T is more aligned with actual application scenarios in China. It can execute tests in a graphical, automated manner under the unified hardware environment provided by CAICT, reflecting differences among database products more fairly, objectively, and truthfully.

Currently, within the CAICT database evaluation system, GBase's distributed transactional database GBase 8c has successfully passed two professional database evaluations—basic capabilities of distributed transactional databases and performance—with outstanding results, thanks to its excellent performance and high availability.
