GBASE Empowers: Building a Smart Energy Ecosystem

Published on 2022-05-18

On May 12, the Smart Energy Technology Exchange Salon, hosted by the Changsha Software and Information Technology Service Industry Promotion Association (hereinafter referred to as the "Changsha Software Promotion Association"), was successfully held. The event was attended by Peng Jian, Secretary General of the Changsha Software Promotion Association; Li Zhijian, Deputy General Manager of Xianyi Technology; and representatives from multiple foundational technology enterprises. As a leading database provider, GBase was invited and delivered an insightful presentation on GBase, a domestically developed and fully autonomous and controllable database.

During the event, Peng Jian, Secretary General of the Changsha Software Promotion Association, and Li Zhijian, Deputy General Manager of Xianyi Technology, delivered opening remarks. Following this, representatives from various enterprises gave themed presentations and engaged in discussions. Centering on the deep integration of next-generation information technologies with the energy industry, they explored ways to further advance foundational technologies and empower the building of a smart energy ecosystem.

In his session, Li Shuo, Director of the Hunan Region for the Government & Enterprise Business Unit at GBase, introduced the product architecture of GBase databases and shared deployment cases in the energy sector. The GBase database family primarily includes the distributed analytical database GBase 8a, the shared-storage database cluster GBase 8s, and the distributed transactional database GBase 8c, among other products. Over more than a decade since its inception, GBase has provided products and services to over 10,000 users across finance, telecommunications, government, energy, transportation, national defense, and enterprise sectors, with over 30,000 deployed nodes and managing a total data volume exceeding 300 PB.

So, what specific applications does GBase have in the energy industry?

State Grid "Online State Grid" Electricity Service Platform

The "Online State Grid" service platform system adopts GBase 8a MPP Cluster, deploying dozens of nodes to manage hundreds of terabytes of data, with daily data increments reaching hundreds of gigabytes, supporting high concurrency.

Application Results and Value

Massive Data Storage and Processing: The data warehouse built on GBase 8a MPP effectively supports several hundred terabytes of data for the State Grid Customer Service Center, with excellent scalability. It dynamically adapts to growing data analysis demands, achieving millisecond-level query performance for the service platform applications.

Efficient Analytical Queries on Massive Data: Leveraging GBase 8a MPP's distributed architecture, columnar storage, compression, and large-scale parallel processing capabilities, it efficiently supports massive data analysis and ad-hoc queries under parallel conditions. It enables second-level online analysis of tens of billions of data rows, with linear system scalability.

Sinopec Intelligent Oil & Gas Field Data Lake

Based on the headquarters' cloud environment, the Intelligent Oil & Gas Field Pilot Construction Project completed the deployment of the upstream data lake. It configured over ten physical servers and several virtual servers, utilizing domestic database products including GBase 8s, GBase 8a, GBaseHD, GBaseRTSync, and GBase UP, along with supporting software such as Rongtong. This established the initial framework for the upstream data lake. This environment supports projects such as the Intelligent Oilfield Pilot, the Shengli Data Governance Data Lake Pilot, and the Intelligent Oilfield Construction at Haiyang Oil Production Plant.

Application Results and Value

Realizing an Autonomous and Controllable Strategy: It has played an exemplary role in the group by comprehensively advancing the "de-IOE" strategy, accelerating the implementation of domestically developed "secure and controllable" supervision, and promoting the evolution of the industry's technical architecture.

Strengthening Data Foundation and Eliminating Information Silos: First, it enriches Sinopec's basic data sources, breaks down data silos between departments, and enables data interoperability. Second, following the principle of ingesting all non-confidential data into the lake, six types of data—structured data, graphic documents, real-time data, geographic information data, audio/video data, and volume data—are consolidated into the lake, with an oversight and assessment mechanism established.

Significantly Enhanced Computing Performance: In various scenarios, computational efficiency is 10 to 1,000 times that of the legacy systems, meeting various real-time data query and analysis requirements.

Technology Empowers Energy

Smart energy, characterized by the convergence of digital and energy technologies, can innovate and reshape energy consumption, supply, transmission, storage, and market mechanisms. Going forward, how will GBASE continue to empower the energy landscape? Stay tuned with GBASE and witness together!

About GBase Databases

GBase 8a is a high-performance, domestically developed database independently created by GBase, designed for massive data query and analysis. It meets the growing data storage, management, and processing needs of data-intensive industries—including data query, statistics, analysis, mining, and backup—and can serve as the underlying database for data warehouse systems, BI systems, and decision support systems.

GBase 8s is a mature and stable shared-storage database cluster independently developed by GBase, with full intellectual property rights. It meets the Level 4 security database standard (equivalent to international B2), supports national cryptographic algorithms, and complies with international database standards and interfaces such as SQL92/99, ODBC, JDBC, and Python. It supports distributed deployment, centralized deployment, shared-storage high-availability deployment, and multi-site high-availability deployment (two locations and three centers), featuring high capacity, high concurrency, and high performance.

GBase 8c is a multi-model, multi-form distributed database that supports a variety of storage modes (row-based, column-based, in-memory) and deployment forms (standalone, primary-standby, distributed). With high performance, high availability, elastic scalability, and high security, GBase 8c can be deployed on physical servers, virtual machines, containers, private clouds, and public clouds. It delivers secure, stable, and reliable data storage and management services for core systems in critical industries, internet business systems, and government/enterprise systems.
