This free trial is based on the latest version of GCDW in private deployment mode. Compared to the SaaS deployment mode which supports multiple virtual warehouses, the private deployment mode supports only one virtual warehouse. When creating a private deployment instance, tenants can customize cloud host specifications and virtual warehouse scale, i.e., the number of database computing service nodes.

01 Steps

Step 1. Register/Log in to Alibaba Cloud account

Each Alibaba Cloud account is limited to one free trial.

*Note:

1) GCDW adopts a storage-compute separation architecture and persists data to OSS. You need to first activate an OSS account and create a bucket.

2) When customizing configuration parameters for the GCDW service instance, make sure to enter the correct OSS AccessKey and OSS Secret; otherwise, the service instance creation will fail.

3) When customizing configuration parameters, modify settings carefully. We recommend using the default configurations. Do not set the number of database computing service nodes greater than 50, as this will cause the service instance creation to fail.

03 What is the free trial GCDW service instance?

To help you better understand GCDW service instances, here is a brief introduction to the service instance and its use scenarios.

What is a GCDW service instance?

This trial uses a private deployment model, creating an independent GCDW service instance for each tenant with exclusive physical resources and software services. A GCDW service instance physically consists of a metadata cluster, a coordinator cluster, a virtual warehouse cluster, and a console service. Additionally, tenants need to activate an OSS account and create a bucket, as the GCDW service instance persists data to OSS. The GCDW service instance allows tenants to use the database directly via a web console, and also supports application access via JDBC/ODBC interface drivers.

When creating a GCDW service instance, tenants can customize configuration parameters such as cloud host specifications, and the scale of the metadata cluster, coordinator cluster, and virtual warehouse cluster. For this free trial, the virtual warehouse cluster supports a maximum of 50 nodes, allowing tenants to fully experience the high-performance data loading and query analysis capabilities brought by the MPP architecture distributed database cluster. Compared to a standalone database, the performance improvement of GCDW is exponential.
