A Gem Beyond Compare: GBase, the Pride of Chinese Technology
Article by Zhang Zhi
It was my great fortune to participate in GBASE's GBase 8s database certification training in September 2022. The entire learning process was immensely rewarding. My name is Zhang Zhi, and I work in the development and operation of digital information systems at Daqing Oilfield. Before this training, my knowledge of databases was limited to the application layer. I had used Oracle and MySQL a lot during development but had little experience with domestic databases.
The nearly 20-day training flew by. Every day was full because I was constantly absorbing new knowledge. I particularly remember the first class, when the instructor introduced GBase after covering foreign databases and then talked about the four leading domestic databases. At that moment, as a Chinese, I felt exceptionally proud. Having worked in IT for so long and mostly used foreign software that sometimes doesn’t quite fit our habits, I have seen the call for domestic software grow stronger. With the rise of domestic software in recent years, I firmly believe the domestic data storage market will soon be thriving. As a standout of Chinese software, GBase boasts many advantages: shared-storage clustering, financial-core-level business capabilities, and its multi-process, multi-thread capability that handles complex transactions with ease. Its two-site-three-center architecture also makes storage services much more secure.
In recent years, as the digitalization of the oilfield has continued to advance, the demands on data storage and database performance have grown significantly. GBase meets these construction needs perfectly. By using its multi-process and multi-thread features, the cost of storing historical data can be greatly reduced while the query efficiency of that data is improved. GBase’s support for JDBC and standard SQL reduces project development difficulty substantially, shortening development cycles. Its On-Bar and Ontape tools provide robust support for data backup and recovery.
The training curriculum was very well structured. Each session was not too long, so I could stay focused and learn more effectively. The post-class mock tests also played a key role in cementing the learning. I want to thank the teaching affairs staff for helping answer all my questions around the clock.
Finally, I thank GBASE for all its efforts in organizing this training. I wish the company ever-increasing success in the future.
