Insurance IT Innovation, Data Leading the Way | GBASE Showcases at the 2023 Insurance Industry IT Application Innovation Conference

From June 1st to 2nd, 2023, the 2023 Insurance Industry Information Technology Application Innovation Conference was held in Beijing. The conference focused on the transformation of core insurance business systems and the selection and application of terminals, sharing successful practical experiences in the industry, addressing the pain points and difficulties in the industry's IT application innovation development, helping the industry accelerate the construction of an IT application innovation ecosystem, and stimulating the vitality of independent innovation in the industry. GBASE presented its innovative database products and digital transformation solutions for the insurance industry at the conference, garnering significant attention from attendees.

The conference was hosted by the Insurance Information Technology Application Innovation Laboratory (hereinafter referred to as "IT Application Innovation Lab"), an important initiative of the lab to implement the strategic deployment of high-level technology self-reliance and self-strengthening, fully leverage its role as "two bases and one platform," and build an insurance IT application innovation ecosystem. The conference brought together resources from multiple parties, building a bridge for communication among the industry, businesses, and third-party organizations. Leaders from Yinbao Information Technology (the IT Application Innovation Lab), the China Software Testing Center and other institutions, experts from the Fifth Research Institute of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the China Software Testing Center, and industry, as well as over one hundred representatives from the insurance industry attended the conference. Participants fully discussed issues related to the digital transformation of the insurance industry, building core capabilities for the sector's digital development, and shared practical experience in IT application innovation, laying a solid foundation for promoting high-quality development of the industry's IT application innovation. Participants engaged with the GBASE Beijing Financial Department in the exhibition area to learn about the GBase database product series and its application in the financial industry. 

2023 marks a critical year for the IT application innovation project to transition from pilot stage to full-scale deployment. As the depth and breadth of transformation further deepen, the transformation of core business systems is imminent, and the IT application innovation project has entered a deep-water zone. PICC Property and Casualty Company Limited Data Platform Project

The original system of the PICC data platform was built on a TD all-in-one platform, with tightly coupled software and hardware, resulting in high operating and maintenance costs. The current storage capacity and processing performance have reached a bottleneck, with vertical scaling impossible, and expansion requires business interruption.
This project aims to reconstruct the system by adopting an MPP database product, utilizing a massively parallel processing architecture and open X86 hardware platform to build a big data platform with distributed computing and horizontal linear scalability.

PICC Life Insurance Company Limited Distributed Database Expansion Project

PICC Life procured GBase 8a MPP Cluster database in 2018, which has supported the construction of branch data BI distribution systems, data warehouse upgrades and other projects in the production environment. To a certain extent, it has alleviated the company’s dependence on Oracle and data appliance environments for data projects, meeting computational efficiency while reducing the cost of data appliance expansion.

It supports the headquarters’ reporting system, management cockpit system, and big data platform. The data warehouse upgrade and transformation project was completed at the end of October 2021. Combining new data processing technologies such as columnar data compression, parallel processing, and fast intelligent indexing, it offers outstanding performance advantages in querying, statistics, analysis, and batch loading.

Sunshine Insurance Group Data Mining Platform Project

To meet Sunshine Insurance Group's massive data query, analysis, and data mining needs, the GBase 8a MPP Cluster large-scale distributed parallel database cluster system was adopted to build the data platform. The database is responsible for loading massive data, integrating and processing common basic data, and constructing data mining marts across various topics, perfectly supporting the group’s analytical applications and decision-making needs.

The project used a batch generation ETL scripting tool to integrate information data from multiple customer business application system platforms, significantly improving development efficiency and ensuring data processing efficiency, providing strong support for in-depth business analysis, and meeting the user’s needs for insurance business system information integration and high-speed statistics.

China Reinsurance Group IT Application Innovation OA Database Procurement Project

To enhance technological independence and meet localization requirements, the OA systems of China Re Group, China Re Property & Casualty Insurance, and China Re Life Insurance were transformed accordingly. The main work included completing smooth migration from the existing operating environment to the localized environment while ensuring the stable operation of existing business functions.

The project adopted the GBase 8s RHAC data cluster solution. The OA system accesses the RHAC cluster through GBase 8s's CM (Connection Manager). In the event of a primary database node failure, the standby node can be switched to become the primary; this switchover is completely transparent to the application system, with short business interruption time, zero data loss, and good user experience. At the same time, it provides load balancing and read-write separation, improving data access concurrency while ensuring high data availability.
