The widely watched 19th Asian Games are in full swing in Hangzhou. As the first host of a major international multi-sport event, Hangzhou has earned widespread praise from guests of various countries and regions for its high-standard event operations. Behind the scenes, the GBase database reliably supports the urban rail information systems in Hangzhou, Shaoxing, Ningbo, and other host cities, facilitating logistical transportation support for the Asian Games and ensuring safe and smooth operations during high passenger flows.
On September 23, at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center Stadium, with the theme “trickles converging into water, surging into tides,” a grand opening ceremony blending millennia-old civilization with modern technology kicked off the 19th Asian Games for a global audience.
This Asian Games is the largest in history in terms of scale, number of events, and coverage. Over 12,000 athletes have registered, and the total number of guests exceeds 30,000. The events are held in one host city (Hangzhou), five co-host cities, and 56 competition venues. As the first host of a major international multi-sport event, Hangzhou has earned high praise from guests worldwide for its high-standard operations.
Transportation is the top priority of the Games' comprehensive support. Through technology-driven initiatives, Hangzhou planned ahead to improve traffic efficiency and invested in a smart urban rail project, achieving full operation of a 516-kilometer rail transit network. GBase (General Data Technology) has partnered with system integrators to help urban rail operations move towards a new era of intelligent, efficient, convenient, and green networking, fully empowering specialized transport support for the opening and closing ceremonies, event-time transport support, high-passenger-flow management, and overall urban operations.
Currently, GBase databases have been widely deployed in the integrated monitoring systems (ISCS) and automatic fare collection (AFC) systems of major urban rail lines in Asian Games host cities, including Hangzhou Metro Lines 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 and 9, Shaoxing Urban Rail Lines 1 and 2, Ningbo Rail Transit Line 5, and the Jinhua-Yiwu-Dongyang Line. ISCS and AFC systems are the core of urban rail operations and management. The AFC system is a modern networked fare collection system commonly used in large-city rail transit, automating the entire process of ticketing, fare calculation, charging, statistics, clearing, and management. The ISCS enables information sharing and resource integration across specialized equipment, effectively monitoring entry and exit conditions at station gates, and enabling coordinated interactions between related systems during nighttime non-operational periods, normal daytime operations, emergencies, and critical equipment failures.
Take the peak passenger flow after the opening ceremony as an example. After the ceremony, metro evacuation started at 22:25 and was completed by 23:20 when the last group of spectators was transported, taking a total of 55 minutes. A total of 54 metro trips were deployed, transporting 32,775 people, with orderly and safe on-site conditions. This achievement was due to the thorough preparation and professional dispatching of event organizers and metro operation managers, as well as the efficient and stable operation of high-quality equipment, facilities, and information systems.
