GBase and the openGauss Community Successfully Host the First University Student Dual Certification Bootcamp

On August 20, GBase and the Huawei openGauss Community jointly concluded the first OGCA & GBase Database University Student Dual Certification Bootcamp. This summer, over 200 university students from across China forged a bond with the GBase database and the openGauss open-source root community.

In June 2024, during openGauss's fourth open-source anniversary, GBase was designated as one of the second batch of training and certification partners of the openGauss Community, becoming an authorized openGauss training and exam center. This summer, the GBase Training Center synchronized with the Huawei ICT Competition Infrastructure Software Bootcamp series to launch the first OGCA & GBase Database University Student Dual Certification Bootcamp. Over 200 university students from across the country, recommended by the openGauss Community, participated in the course. Among them, nearly 100 students passed the exam and earned the dual certification of GBase 8c GDCA and openGauss OGCA.

One Exam, Two Certificates

Here, let's explain the connection between the GBase 8c database, its GDCA certification and training, and openGauss.

GBase 8c is the third-generation intelligent database built by General Data Technology based on the openGauss kernel. As a commercial distribution of openGauss, it shares identical operations and fully compatible syntax with the open-source community version.

The GBase 8c GDCA certification training is a professional course launched by the GBase Training Center to help learners understand, master, and improve their proficiency with GBase 8c. It is an integral part of the openGauss database training and certification system.

Previously, driven by the strong momentum of openGauss in China, the openGauss Community, together with partners such as GBase and the China Software Industry Association Training Center, jointly established the openGauss training and certification system. The aim is to help enterprises rapidly cultivate professional DBA talent, enable relevant practitioners to efficiently obtain authoritative qualifications, and encourage technology enthusiasts to actively engage in the community's technical ecosystem.

The openGauss OGCA certification represents the entry-level stage of this system, and just like the GBase 8c GDCA certification training, it serves as a starting point for learners mastering openGauss.

The course content for this dual certification bootcamp, under the requirements of the openGauss OGCA certification syllabus, was based on theoretical explanations and conducted hands-on demonstrations using the GBase 8c database. The course introduced the development of China's domestic databases and the openGauss architecture, as well as two different deployment methods—primary-standby and distributed—to adapt to diverse enterprise database usage scenarios and facilitate understanding of openGauss technical features. This made the learning process more efficient and in-depth for the students.
