DTCC 2024 Highlights | GBase’s Journey to Self-Developed Innovation and Database Autonomy

Published on 2024-08-23

On August 22, 2024, the 15th China Database Technology Conference (DTCC 2024), hosted by IT168 together with its tech communities ITPUB and ChinaUnix, was grandly convened in Beijing. GBase (General Data Technology) made an appearance with its full-stack GBase database products and innovations. Chairman Ding Mingfeng was invited to the “DBA Night” to share his 20-year data journey. Technical experts presented GBase’s practical explorations into self-developed innovation and insights for the data-intelligent future in two tracks: Database Autonomy – Finance (Part 1) and Self-Developed Implementation of Distributed Databases.

This year’s DTCC, themed “Self-Developed Innovation, Data-Intelligent Future”, featured 2 main venues and over 20 technical sessions, focusing on hot topics such as vector databases and vector retrieval practices, data governance and data asset management, cloud-native database development, database management and optimization in specific scenarios, and big data platform construction. It invited over 100 top industry experts and scholars to deeply analyze cutting-edge technologies and widely share practical cases, offering database practitioners an annual technical feast.

Dedicated to Database Software Products and Services

At the “DBA Night” that evening, Ding Mingfeng, Chairman of GBase (General Data Technology), was invited to share his 20-year data journey. When talking about the company’s development, Ding noted that sustained growth requires focus. GBase is a company dedicated to database software products and services, and will always focus on being a trusted domestic database provider and a professional database software vendor.

On the development of the database industry, Ding believes that a single database can no longer solve all problems; different scenarios require specialized database products. Against this backdrop, GBase focuses on core database technology and has built a full-stack database product system to suit different application scenarios. By leveraging different types of databases, the company maximizes the combination of hardware performance and application requirements. Each product focuses on solving the most critical problems, thus providing precise services to different users. Currently, GBase has built a full-stack data product system including GBase 8s, a shared-storage database cluster for strong-consistency transactions; GBase 8a, a distributed logical data warehouse for strong analysis/weak transaction scenarios; and GBase 8c, a multi-model distributed transactional database for strong transaction/weak analysis scenarios.

Full-Stack GBase Database Financial Application Practices

Zhang Shaoyong, Chief Engineer of GBase 8a, delivered a presentation titled “Full-Stack GBase Database Applications and Practices in the Financial Sector” in the Track: Database Autonomy – Finance (Part 1). He discussed GBase’s full-stack database products, solutions, and typical cases, sharing the company’s experience and insights in the financial sector.

Zhang noted that as practices deepen, expectations for databases are shifting from “One Size Fits All” to “One Size Fits a Bunch.” Leveraging its full-stack, locally developed data product and solution system, GBase harnesses the strengths of different types of databases to address the varied challenges enterprises face in real-world database usage.

This strategy has proven effective in the financial industry. To date, GBase databases have served over 150 financial institutions, including banks, insurers, and securities firms, covering everything from core banking systems, data warehouses, and big data platforms to peripheral systems such as OA and email. Moreover, more than ten GBase database solutions have been selected for the “Excellent Financial IT Application Innovation Solutions” by the Financial IT Application Innovation Ecosystem Lab. The company has also released the “GBase 8a Financial Application Guide” to help financial institutions select the right distributed database.

Leveraging extensive mature cases and rich engineering implementation experience in the financial sector, GBase helps financial institutions achieve the integrated development of digital transformation and IT application innovation transformation.

Third-Generation Intelligent Database Innovation and Application

Wang Wei, Product Director of GBase 8c, delivered a keynote speech titled “Innovation and Application of GBase’s Third-Generation Intelligent Database” at the Self-Developed Distributed Database Implementation Track. She shared how GBase 8c helps enterprises tackle diverse scenarios and empowers business development through innovation.

Wang Wei emphasized that GBase’s third-generation intelligent database, GBase 8c, optimizes indicators such as index construction, vector query response time, and recall rate, enabling database cluster processing capabilities of up to tens of billions of vector scale, with performance reaching millions of QPS and millisecond-level query latency. This easily meets the demands of high-concurrency business scenarios, helping users deeply mine and analyze business data, understand the value behind the data, and provide more precise support for business decisions.

Furthermore, GBase 8c has introduced innovations and enhancements focusing on intelligent optimization, intelligent querying, intelligent operations, and intelligent security, significantly improving the database user experience.

Intelligent Optimization: Recommends the optimal data distribution for users through intelligent sharding; intelligent cardinality estimation improves the accuracy of the optimizer’s plan and operator selection; adaptive plan selection avoids frequent calls to query optimization. AI4DB enables database self-driving management and maintenance.

Intelligent Querying: Determines whether sharding should be sent to a single HG or a designated HG based on application SQL; local transactions are sent directly to specific HG nodes, achieving high concurrency to meet throughput requirements. Cross-node distributed transactions are managed through GTM with a strict two-phase commit process, realizing distributed transactions across nodes.

Intelligent Operations: Through visual O&M management and monitoring capabilities, users can quickly locate and resolve issues, continuously optimize performance, minimize business risks caused by database problems, improve system stability and reliability, and significantly reduce operational costs.

Intelligent Security: GBase 8c employs advanced security protection technologies to provide comprehensive data protection. The system effectively defends against various security threats and data leakage risks, ensuring data integrity and confidentiality.
