Application and Effectiveness of GBase Shared-Storage Database in the Digital Transformation of Kunlun Bank

Published on 2025-05-07

As a commercial bank with the most distinctive integration of industry and finance in China, Bank of Kunlun has always aligned with its development positioning of serving energy, serving Xinjiang, and serving the national development interests. While undertaking typical commercial banking operations, it also handles high-concurrency, high-responsiveness core financial services such as cross-border settlement and supply chain finance.

Under the strategic backdrop of Digital China and Digital-Intelligent Petroleum, Bank of Kunlun actively responds to the national IT application innovation strategy. Considering financial information security and business development needs, it has carried out domestic technology transformation of existing information systems by deploying a full stack of Chinese-developed proprietary software and hardware products. Among them, the database selected is the GBase shared-storage database cluster, enhancing data management efficiency and providing support for innovative financial business operations.

To meet the stringent requirements of Bank of Kunlun’s various information systems for database stability, security, and high concurrency, the project adopted the GBase shared-storage database cluster solution, which provides enterprise-grade features such as high availability, easy scalability, and application transparency, delivering secure, stable, and efficient data services for more than ten business systems including management and transaction systems.

High Availability: When a node fails, other nodes automatically take over, providing robust disaster recovery capabilities and ensuring continuous operation of business systems.

High Scalability: Users can add GBase cluster nodes according to data growth to increase the database's parallel processing capability.

Application Transparency: When a node fails, the database automatically switches over, with complete transparency for the application, requiring no configuration changes.

Low Cost and High Availability

By adopting SSC shared-storage cluster technology, resource utilization efficiency under high availability mode is improved, further enhancing failover success rate and speed, thus achieving overall system high availability at lower hardware costs.

Full-Stack Domestic, Independent, and Controllable

Using the GBase shared-storage database cluster to fully host critical systems such as management and production systems, a full-stack domestic environment from underlying hardware and software to upper-layer applications is established, providing Bank of Kunlun with an independently controllable, secure, and efficient digital infrastructure that maintains stable operation in production environments.

Rich Integrated Deployment Technology Architecture

The project passed high-standard systematic testing and verification, featuring high replaceability, scalability, stability, availability, and controllability. It can be replicated across various management and transaction applications, enriching the execution standards of the foundational technology architecture.

In the transactional database field, shared-storage clusters are widely recognized as a technical challenge. GBase Shared-Storage Cluster (SSC) achieves high availability by using shared disk architecture, where only a single copy of data is stored, supporting multiple writes and reads. By effectively utilizing hardware resources and avoiding redundant data storage, the shared storage supports disk arrays and distributed storage. It also offers various high availability deployment schemes such as two-site three-center disaster recovery, providing secure and stable data services for core business systems in key industries including finance, telecommunications, energy, and transportation.

In the financial industry, the GBase database product series has been widely applied in banking, insurance, and securities, serving over 200 financial institutions with more than 20,000 database deployments, achieving the highest adoption rate in the financial sector. Among them, the GBase shared-storage database cluster has reliably supported the core system construction of over ten financial institutions.
