Joint Launch & Keynote Speech | GBASE Debuts at Kunpeng Developers Summit 2023

Published on 2023-05-08

On May 6-7, the Kunpeng Developers Summit 2023, themed “Create the Future, Enjoy the Extraordinary”, was held in Songshan Lake, Dongguan. The summit aims to build a platform for ecosystem partners and developers to learn, share, and exchange ideas, helping developers gain in-depth understanding of the full-stack Kunpeng and Ascend technologies, and accelerate innovation in industry technologies, products, and solutions. Industry technology leaders, domain experts, top academic talents, ecosystem partners, and university developers gathered to share thoughts and experiences on database industry trends and innovative practices, and to explore cutting-edge database technologies.

Currently, the Kunpeng ecosystem is thriving and steadily advancing, becoming the preferred choice for core industry scenarios and scientific research, and accelerating digital transformation. As a key partner in the Kunpeng ecosystem, GBASE (General Data Technology) deeply participated in various sessions of the summit. At the keynote forum on the first day, GBASE joined partner representatives and Mr. Li Yi, President of Huawei Kunpeng Computing Business, to launch the joint release ceremony of database commercial distributions based on openGauss 5.0. In addition, GBASE was invited to deliver a keynote speech at the openGauss technology breakout session.

7 Partners and Users Including GBASE Launch Database Distributions Based on openGauss 5.0

With the release of the openGauss 5.0 kernel, GBASE concurrently launched the evolution of GBase 8c V5 and GBase 8s V8.8.5. These versions maintain compatibility with previous releases while significantly enhancing capabilities in areas such as operator performance, user-level auditing, and compatibility. They support primary-standby deployment scenarios, improve MySQL compatibility, and adapt to the entire openGauss toolchain.

openGauss Technical Session: Three-in-One, Multi-Capability – A Multi-Model and Multi-State Database Based on openGauss

The openGauss technical breakout session was held on the afternoon of May 6. The session showcased the latest version’s technical innovations and real-world implementations of openGauss 5.0 features to customers and partners.

At the event, Mr. Zhang Yi, General Manager of the GBase 8c Product Business Unit at GBASE, delivered a technical talk titled “Three-in-One, Multi-Capability – A Multi-Model and Multi-State Database Based on openGauss” to the attendees. He provided an in-depth explanation of GBase 8c’s research achievements in distributed technologies, product capabilities, and real-world applications built on the openGauss kernel.

Zhang Yi pointed out that traditional monolithic databases struggle to meet the high-concurrency and high-throughput performance demands of modern businesses. Distributed architectures and microservices have become mainstream, and distributed databases can better adapt to these architectural shifts. Additionally, macro-level policy guidance and the official release of industry standards have further boosted the vigorous development of distributed databases. Leveraging over a decade of innovation and practice in the distributed field, GBASE built the GBase 8c multi-model, multi-state distributed database product on the openGauss kernel.

GBase 8c is built on the openGauss open-source kernel. “Multi-model, multi-state” means GBase 8c supports multiple storage models including row-based, column-based, and in-memory storage, as well as various deployment modes such as standalone, primary-standby, and distributed. It delivers high availability, high performance, high elasticity, high intelligence, and high security, suitable for diverse business scenarios and significantly reducing initial build costs and total cost of ownership (TCO). Additionally, GBase 8c is compatible with mainstream database features and provides one-stop migration capabilities, enabling a zero-cost migration solution for users.

Since its release, the GBase 8c multi-model, multi-state database has been successfully deployed with customers across various industries, achieving major breakthroughs in finance, government, and other sectors.

GBASE’s journey at Kunpeng Developers Summit 2023 continues. The partner forum hosted by GBASE will be held on the morning of May 7, covering distributed technology principles, intelligent database operations, GBase 8c industry best practices… More technical insights and exciting speeches will be unveiled tomorrow.
