openGauss: Embracing the Open Source Spirit, Driving Innovation, and Co-Building a Database Industry Ecosystem

Yan Ye, Vice President of Kunpeng Computing Business and Head of Kunpeng Computing Product Department, attended and delivered a speech at the forum. She stated that basic software is the soul of next-generation information technology, the foundation of the digital economy, and a key pillar for building a manufacturing power, a cyber power, and a digital China. As an open source, open, cooperative, and win-win database technology community, the openGauss community adheres to the philosophy of “independent innovation and open cooperation,” and is committed to creating a high-performance, secure, reliable, and highly intelligent open source database product.

GBase is a key partner of the openGauss community, playing critical roles in the community council, brand committee, and user committee. It was the first to release GBase 8c, a commercial distribution native distributed database based on the openGauss technology roadmap, and has actively contributed to community building with significant contributions. Looking ahead, the openGauss community will continue to uphold the spirit of open source, deepen collaboration with GBase, persist in innovation-driven development, advance database technology and application innovation, and looks forward to joining hands with more users and partners to build an even more prosperous, vibrant, efficient, and secure database industry ecosystem.

Implementation and Evolution of GBase 8c's Distributed Consistent Architecture

Gu Yu, GBase 8c Technical Architect, shared the evolution process and implementation ideas of GTM's support for the global MVCC mechanism.

In the GBase 8c database, GTM is a critical network element that ensures the consistency of the distributed cluster. To guarantee strong consistency of distributed transactions, it is necessary to maintain global transaction IDs and snapshots, based on which visibility judgments are made.

Traditional solutions based on global snapshots require notifying GTM each time transaction status changes, leading to overly frequent network interactions, numerous internal states within GTM, resulting in high latency, high network overhead, cumbersome and complex error handling, and difficulty in maintaining large-node clusters. In contrast, adopting openGauss's kernel with CSN-based MVCC mechanism significantly reduces traffic consumption and internal interaction counts, alleviates GTM pressure, centralizes historical version storage, and lowers the cost of garbage collection. Moreover, server & proxy thread pooling greatly facilitates cluster scaling.

Typical Application Cases of GBase 8c in the Financial Industry

Zhong Jianping, General Manager of Sichuan Xinyichuang Technology Co., Ltd., stated that as the digital economy becomes a national strategy, providing services that empower digital economic development and offering secure and reliable database products have become key areas of focus.

The Xinyichuang Financial IT Innovation (XC) Laboratory serves the financial industry by providing mature product selection, compatibility verification, consulting guidance, and talent training services, strongly empowering financial industry applications. Leveraging the advantages of the financial-grade distributed transactional database GBase 8c—stability and reliability, distributed transactions, compatibility with mainstream databases, a localized ecosystem, elastic scaling, and flexible deployment—the company collaborates with GBase to deliver secure, stable, and reliable data storage and management services for core financial systems, internet business systems, and government/enterprise business systems, enabling customers to flexibly meet business demands, adapt to China's localized ecosystem, enhance high availability, and reduce IT costs.

Observability and Intelligent O&M: GBase 8c Delivers a Distinctive O&M Experience

Xu Ji, CTO & Senior Database Optimization Expert at Nanjing Jishi Data Technology Co., Ltd., shared experiences with GBase 8c's observability and intelligent O&M.

Database observability is a crucial pillar for database O&M. Nanjing Jishi Data has built a comprehensive set of indicator classification and processing standards based on years of DBA experience of its technical team, forming a knowledge graph. A novel intelligent O&M technology has been piloted on GBase 8c. Through O&M knowledge automation technology, a GBase database O&M knowledge graph based on the openGauss kernel was constructed, and intelligent inference algorithms were utilized to achieve fault location and root cause analysis.

Sharing of GBase 8c Smart Banking Solution

Jiang Chunhua, Product Manager at Cashway Financial Technology Co., Ltd., in the presentation, reviewed the development history and product features of Cashway Financial Technology, deeply analyzed the application of GBase 8c in smart banking projects, and scientifically addressed how basic software facilitates the intelligent transformation of bank front-end operations.

Addressing significant costs and obstacles in user development, deployment, data sharing, service linkage, and unified management, as leading enterprises in their respective fields, Cashway Technology and GBase provided customers with a comprehensive financial IT innovation terminal management solution. In a collaborative project, over 4,000 self-service devices were taken over, reducing customers' costs in business expansion and O&M management, achieving data storage across two locations and three centers with intelligent sharing, accelerating customers' smart branch transformation, and providing solid support for technological independent innovation.

GBase 8c Empowers Enterprises to Reduce Costs and Increase Efficiency

In distributed scenarios, since database systems must process massive amounts of data, storage and processing resources can easily become constrained. The key to solving this lies in performing elastic scaling of clusters without affecting user operations. To address this, GBase 8c Technical Architect Zhou Chunmiao introduced the principles of elastic scaling in GBase 8c.

In GBase 8c, users can set scaling rules based on business needs and policies. When business demand increases, the system automatically adds database nodes to ensure computing and storage capacity; when demand decreases, it automatically reduces nodes, helping enterprises improve efficiency and reduce operational costs.

Drawing on the concept of consistent hashing algorithms, GBase 8c introduces a bucket map table. During scaling operations, only the bucket map table needs to be adjusted, changing the node corresponding to the bucket ID to the newly added or retained node. The adjustment algorithm ensures that data is not migrated between existing nodes; only data from changed bucket IDs is migrated to other nodes, minimizing data movement.
