Kunming Smart Transportation System Construction Project
Project Overview
1. Project Background
Kunming operates over 13,000 cruising taxis and ride-hailing cars. To drive the transformation of the traditional taxi sector, ensure compliance and safety for ride-hailing services, and elevate overall service quality, the city launched its Three-Year Action Plan for Smart Transportation Development, which designates the intelligent upgrade of taxi industry services and management as a key application project. The Kunming Municipal Taxi Administration Bureau sought a complete solution to manage and monitor both cruising taxis and ride-hailing vehicles, fulfilling the smart transportation mandate for the industry.
2. Project Requirements
The client required the new system to deliver TB-level storage capacity, fast data processing, an excellent user experience, strong compatibility, and high scalability.
System Availability: The system must run continuously 24/7 with an availability of at least 99.9%.
System Response Time: Results must be returned to users within 3 seconds, and complex queries must be completed within 5 seconds.
System Scalability: The system must be highly scalable, supporting various application interface protocols and integrating diverse hardware devices and network systems, thereby ensuring outstanding flexibility and expandability.
System Security and Confidentiality: The system must comply with national security and confidentiality laws and regulations, as well as meet China’s information security graded protection (Classified Protection) requirements.
Data Processing Requirements: For terminal access, the system’s capacity must be calculated based on a benchmark of at least 50,000 vehicles.
Implementation Plan
The "Kunming Taxi Ride-Hailing and Cruising Integrated Smart Management and Service Platform Project" encompasses 10 major business systems, covering the full-cycle supervision and services of the city's taxi industry—before, during, and after each trip. By aggregating industry data resources into a centralized data center, big data analytics provides data-driven decision support for operations such as intelligent vehicle dispatching. This placed immense demands on overall system functionality planning and performance. The project deployed a combination of GBase 8a and GBase 8s databases from General Data Technology (GBase). Multiple GBase 8s instances were used for data front-end collection, feeding the gathered data into a GBase 8a cluster for analysis, with results ultimately delivered to upper-layer applications, effectively meeting diverse customer requirements. The data volume has now reached the terabyte level, supporting classified processing of various data types, including basic data such as taxi operator, driver, and vehicle information, as well as dynamic operational data like satellite positioning data, shift sign-in/out data, in-vehicle smart terminal heartbeat data, operational data, service ratings, phone dispatch data, alarm data, video data, and environmental data.

Meeting the requirements of Kunming’s smart transportation construction: GBase 8s’ stability, functionality, performance, and cluster architecture satisfy business needs, delivering expected system availability, response time, scalability, security, and concurrency performance.

Through the integrated GBase 8a and GBase 8s solution, a data flow loop from business to data and back to empowering business has been established, enhancing the smart management of the taxi industry.
